Ok so I have a issue. My girl gauge sometimes reads 1/4 than will shoot up to full than drop to empty than show accurate I think than cycle repeats. I have a new fuel pump assembly. Could this be a issue with the cluster?

for real i thought you said you were a mechanic........

level sensor on the pump canister. you can buy just the level sender and replace it. or the whole canister. <<costs way more. just the sender is like 20 bucks on line.

Just to be clear, by assembly you mean you installed the whole shebang, pump, sending unit and strainer?

If so, there’s the possibility that the connection is bad, the arm could have been bent when inserting in to the tank, causing a loss of connection.

Harness/plug could be corroded or damaged.

Look at the gauge as a last item. Unless, there is a salvage yard close to you, grab a new (used) cluster and swap it in. But, to just diagnose an issue that could end up rather expensive.

There is always the possibility that there is a bad solder joint, or wire in the cluster.

My point is, it could be any number of things, just offering you some ideas and starting points.

Lol the unintentional humor here cracks me up . I have the same issue but the older I get, the less the cycle repeats.

I replaced the fump/sender assembly cause it's what made most sense. But didn't fix it so I wanted to ask about the gauges before I replaced the cluster cause of my odometer

could be a bad stepper motor in the cluster. those are changeable.

Just curious if you figured it out? I don’t have this issue, but it’d be cool for the solution to be posted as our cars are getting up there in age and never know if it might become a larger scale issue. Hope you got her fixed!
