    Hey Everybody,

I have a 1998 Grand Prix GTP 2 door. It has the performance shift button, but when I push it nothing happens.

Every once in a while the performance shift light comes on without me touching the button.

Has anyone ever had this problem? Is there a solenoid or some kind of wiring that could be the problem?

Normally it's wiring. There is no solenoid or anything like that.

The performance shift on my '98 GTP isn't working also.

Where should I start testing ?

I'll probably start with the shifter handle, and see if it has power going to it.

LuckBoB did you get yours fixed?

No power at all. It's literally two wires going straight to the pcm through the firewall. I would be more inclined to test the switch since it's a toggle, there's a possibility that it is stuck internally. Probably easiest first test to do, is go to the pcm and test the pins for continuity while someone pushes the button. I'm going to bet that it reads as open. From there, you can test the continuity of the wires on each side of the switch back to the pcm and the switch itself. Best place to find the wiring diagrams is autozone.com. Create a free account, log your vehicle, go to self-help tab, wiring diagrams and pick the various tabs till you find the right diagram. Good luck!
