Does anyone know how to get the 1" strip of trim that runs down the middle of the door off? Or if it's possible to get it off without messing up the paint?

pretty sure the 97-03 also have body clips that hold the trim on. best to open the door panel and see if you can see the clips, then push them out from the inside.
i know the 04 up cars have the clips, and the regal lower door trim is also held on this way.
Okay is it possible to get the clips off without messing things up? I have buffing compound in between that I can't get off and it looks like **** on a black car.

Yea I don't want to scratch it you look at black paint wrong and it scratches I got a little out with credit card and a microfiber. I'd like to just take it off and hit it with the buffer and get it all but I don't want to mess the paint up taking the trim off.

tooth brush works fine, wont scratch it, it takes no pressure to remove it. Q tips also work. credit card your asking for scratches.
only one way to find out, pull a door panel off and see what you see.
Running your finger across the paint scratches it... I wrapped the credit card with a microfiber and used some quick wax so it wasn't dry. The trim is to close to the door to use q tips the buffing compound has been behind there for a couple years it's baked on the guy I paid to buff it should have used tape. It's like back behind the trim you can only see it if your on the right angle. I just figured if someone has taken the trim off before and it's easy I'd take it off.

This would be why after paying someone to do a half assed job like anything else I went and bought my own buffer and practiced on my winter car. I buff myself now.

Oh yea? I really like meguiars products it's works the best for your money. I use turtle spray wax because they have black for black cars it helps like what comes in the black box.
