The reason I ask is because I can get a new one for a couple hundred bucks. I also have an HP Tuner Pro to mod the pcm though I haven't used it before.
-Can the LS1 pcm be used? Can cylinders #7 and 8 be "tuned out" of it and the 6 cylinders can be fired in the right order?
-I'm using a manual transmission so don't need to control an electronic transmission...just the engine.
-Are the connectors about the same and sensor locations close enough so they don't need extensions? Don't want to have to chop this new harness to bits.

    Thanks for your help!

To my knowledge you cannot use that computer. There is no way to have it setup for these cars.

Some of the big changes are that the LS1 computers use a normal VE and MAF table to run the motor, 3800 computer are basically MAF only. Waste spark ignition system on a 3800 compared to a regular single coil pack. No real way to just disable two cylinders from firing and changing the firing order to get it to work.

It's best to just find a 3800 computer and disable all the transmission related codes and it will run like normal. I'd suggest a 99-00 computer just to not deal with the cat tests that HPT can't disable.
