ive been asking myself this question a lot lately. I realize it's not going to just drop in, and there will have to be custom fab work done. Im just wondering if any of you guys know of anyone who has tried or is going to try and do this swap? first gear will be useless I realize with all the torque from the L67 but I have a feeling it would be a very fun combo

    Nope.

Unless you can somehow run a seperate TCM controller that ONLY can control the transmission itself. Then you are talking massive amounts of fab work, likely making your own custom bell housing and so on. Then figure out how to make both work together.

OK, good to know. With that being said, does anyone know off a fwd auto trans with more than 4 speeds that may possibly fit? 5 speed Saab auto came to mind. But that would require bell housing work you say?

There is really nothing else you can swap in.

People have done the 4T80e swap from the northstar motor, but even that requires lots of fab work and custom tuning/wiring etc etc etc.

Just buy a built 4T65e from triple edge preformance and be on your way.

YES, the 6t75 fits! if it fits in a damn fiero with a LS2 v8 mounted with it it will fit in a wbody........

Good in here more people that cant figure out google and just say NOPE WONT fit.

Yes it will fit. So does the 6 speed from the G6. People have done the F40 swap before on a wbody also......

Controlling it. people said the 4t80 wouldn't work hmmmmm but it does.....

People said a ls4 and a 4t80 wouldn't work together but hmmmmm it does....

The OP wasn't asking if it was "bolt in"

LOL threads like this make me hate this site buncha nope motherfvckers that cant use google.

To the OP want to see some weird ass swaps google a little into the fiero world them fiero owners are crazy.

Ive seen every thing imaginable in a damn fiero like a ls7 mounted to a dog box NSX transmission.........

BTW as for transmission swaps unless your hell bent on using a 6 speed id go 4t80.
A they are cheaper and easier to find.
B they have already been put in a wbody with both v6 and v8 engines.
C the 4t80 is slowly but surely making progress in the modification/reliability category to hold pretty good power. I know of at least 2 people that have thrashed them with at least 700hp getting thrown at them.
D the tuning options are already worked out and sorted with multiple options........

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Impala

6t70 was available in the last generation w body the 9th generation impala. Making me 100% with out a question of doubt that it WILL fit in a wbody.

It was backed up with the 3.6 V6 for model year 2012. 2012 they dropped the 4 speed in favor of that 6t70.

So yes it fits. Tuning it, well I don't know how or who can do that but its been done like I said in the LS2/6t75 fiero.

6t70/6t76/6t80 are all nearly identical in size and co-developed by GM and Ford.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM-For...c_transmission

Ive drove the 300hp 3.6/6t70 impala as a rental car and I noticed it felt entirely different than the 7 bodies Ive owned yet shares the same chassis Hmmmmm weird huh? LOL!!

Here is a 3 page thread from ls1tech.com The LS4 guys are trying to make this an option but the LS4 uses a different starter location so that's the current problem if using a V8 with it. I expect this to be resolved same way the ls4/4t80 solution, mod the oil pan to fit the starter.

    http://ls1tech.com/forums/ls4-perfor...ter-plate.html

Isnt the interwebs like fvcking magic when you just spend a little time looking around.......But that requires a lot more than just typing NOPE! to everything........... LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Well half way there does it fit? YES. Who tunes a 6t70? HPtuners does. Now just make it work with the older 3800 v6 is the only missing part left.

    http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showth...tock-6T70-tune

Linked ^ the above thread to simply PROVE tuning support is available.........

OP. you could start by sending Will @ Overkilled a PM I know he tunes the 3.6 6 speed impalas. I have talked to him before about swapping the 3.6/6speed into an older wbody in the past also.

You can come up with all this transmission info.. yet your info in IC's absolutely sucks. Odd

youd have to convert the 3800 to use the later 60* "digital" cam and crank triggers or go straight to megasquirt/big stuff/etc for a 6 spd

They make custom trans controllers to utilize the internal TCM.
I believe that is also covered on the fiero sites.

The 6T75E is rated about the same torque as a 4T65E-HD, with the main difference being that's in a 5000-6000 lbs SUV; as such the LS2 6T75 has survived in the Fiero attached to a very powerful Fiero just fine.

I think it would make a big difference in drive-ability to be honest - I've always felt that we're missing at least a gear (understanding that 1st gear traction will be difficult).
My 1st gear goes to around 50-55 mph and 2nd gear goes to 100 mph. That is absolutely asinine!

I easy answer is always nope.

Because the price and time involved out weigh everything else. Sure they are similar is size but them fitting without TONS and TONS of extra works that makes it not worth it equals a giant nope to me and nearly everyone else.

I think tyler just likes to hear himself talk and be the smart guy in threads. Come down to reality on some stuff here, it's not worth the time involved.

op said in 1st post that he realizes it wont be drop in.......

also fvck your a2w intercoolers on a sc setup...... ive just never been a fan of a2w on any blower setup. its just personal opinion.

agree 100% go drive a 3.6 6 speed 2012 or newer impala like the rental i mentioned i drove. its an entirely differnt experience with 2 more gears......

Maybe I am a mechanic, and most mechanics with knowledge know what's going to work fast and easy with little issues.

This job is highly involved and I said that from the beginning and it's also not worth the money or time in a platfoam like this.

Saying nope it won't work is easier than trying to explain every last detail as to why this kind of swap is pointless. Custom this and custom that then all the giant headaches that will creep up make this swap even more not worth it.

what will and wont work should not be based on opinion........

because to you its not worth it doesnt mean dick your not the one that would like to do the swap.

funny how all auto makers are getting more and more speed transmissions.

10 speeds are coming for the projected mach 1 return in 2018 for ford......

just saying the ability to have 2 more gears would be great!

THANK YOU. I know it's not a plug and play swap. But yes the fact that the last generation Impala used both trans makes me think it would at least fit. As far as 4 speeds go I think the 4t65 is pretty great. Mine has 175,xxx miles on it and still shifts quicker than many of said newer trans. But it's days are numbered. It's gonna die, and if it does, I know it's worth it to try and make the 6 speed work.

Welcome and if you think a 175k mile 4tgarbage65 shifts good you've never drove or been in a car with a built 4tgarbage65. LOL!!!!

Honestly If your hell bent on keeping the car and using the 6 speed id just use the 3.6 along with it that way the computer is on the same page from the start. The 3.6 makes 300 hp anyways just as much as the LS4 v8 in the GXP grand prix. That would be way less hassle on the tuning side and everything would bolt right to the cradle.

This is what Ive talked about with Will @ Overkilled about in the past.

Buy the whole engine trans cradle drop out of a wrecked impala.

Then come the money issue. And its always is a factor I don't care what anyone says. Even an engine and trans combo from a wreck is likely going to be 2k plus easy since the 3.6 and that trans are used in many platforms its going to command pretty good chunk of coin.

That all being said the main reason most people that have done the 4T80 is because its got a way bigger chain in it and able to hold more HP.

If your just trying to get the 2 extra gears again Id be swapping the engine trans and cradle all at once to avoid the tuning problems.
