Hey guys, what's the best way to launch these torquey fwd L67s in a race?
hold the brakes push the gas to the stall rpm's like 1800 rpm, ( you'll feel the car pulling the brakes) then let the brake go and ease into the gas as you take off. may take a few tries to learn the line between spinning and winning.
True, i definitely need practice. I know someone that just bought a 04' or 06' bonneville with a 5.3L in it. Not sure if it came stock with it (experimental year maybe IDK) but it has a chevy 5.3L in it.
He wants to race but he has no mods so i know i have a chance of beating him for sure.
If i can get this launch right i know i can take him
That 5.3L only has like 260whp and 300ftlbs, 06' Monte Carlo has the same motor
Well seeing how the bonneville never came with a 5.3, someone must have swapped it over. They only came with the 4.6 Northstar and 4T80e. And the GXP bonneville was only for 04-05, they were dropped for 06 model year.
Figured that, i told him someone had to drop that 5.3L in there bc i knew the GXP only came with the ****tttty N*
But he bought the car that way and swears it was maufactured that way. Im like naw, but he even convinced me to second guess myself.
Either way i gotta get this launch down
My bad, its a GrandPrix GXP with the 5.3 LS4
I had the bonneville and GrandPrix confused (similiar looks)
The ls4 is underrated imo at least torque wise. I owned an 06 monte ss for a few years and that thing felt torquier (not sure if that's a word?) Than my current 300whp 350whp+ l32 gp. With only a cat back that thing was a beast down low. I know the gearing is a little different and there are a few other differences between that and my comp g, but my point is don't underestimate an ls4.
Also, if you're asking how to launch I assume you can't drive for crap, so if he can launch, he's gonna win.

Did this race ever happen?
Nope, havnt raced him yet, i gotta put a water pump and rear struts on for him. I dont really race so launching this thing is something i dont do much.
I mean dont get me wrong, i get on it and embarrass people from time to time but having a strategic launch for better timing in a race is what i don't know how to do.
I've been working on the way to launch mentioned above though
How much fun is the water pump install on those engines?
It's really not too bad. There are write ups. Pull the battery and its pretty simple. It takes longer than water pumps on other W-body motors, but not much if you do it right.
Yeah, not hard. Looks tight but easier than it looks
Yup, either you know how to do it or you dont. You will have to remove the battery plate along with the battery itself
