A little over a month ago, I purchased a new to me 02 GTP. It's a black coupe, needs some paint and a set of side skirts on top of other various menu items. I've replaced the serp. belt, along with the front pads + rotors. I enjoy the car, I like the sporty look, but I'm really on the fence of keeping it. It still needs quite a bit of work, my ignition switch issue just reared its ugly head in the middle of summer. Both front wheel bearings are going out, the serp. belt tensioner is shot, etc.

There's a Buick Regal GS that came up for sale in my area recently, cosmetically its in better shape, with 14k less miles. I'm interested in taking it out for a test drive. If everything checks out, I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on it.

What I'm asking from you guys is to give me a pros-cons list between a GTP and a Regal. I don't mind doing the work to my car, but I've seen threads where people praise the GS over the GTP (looking at you, BillBoost )

Let's hear what you guys think!

they have the same pro's and con's. its the same car with different skin on the outside of it. ( regal rockers tend to not rot out like gp's tho)

but in the end the regal is a much nicer car to ride in, sleeper too. cops dont look at me twice ever. it lacks that sporty look the gp has, but makes up for in with the comfort.

As far as performance between the two, I know the Regal is heavier. Is there a large difference in that seat of the pants feel? I love the quickness of the GTP, but I'm assuming the Regal probably isnt far behind.

Scotty, what can you tell me about the Regal as far as maintenance and repair costs vs. the GTP? I know Regals have the digital AC controls, amongst other options the Prix doesnt have.

regals a luxury car really. iirc its like 200 lb more. but who cares. the seats just flat out blows a GP's seats away. you'll figure that out on your own. both front seats are power too.

it has a real digital boost gauge. digital cc. that tends to need re soldering from time to time, so if it dont light up, its fix able. i did mine. most have heated seats on both sides. or no heated seats at all.

the cluster's miles and dic area also like to burn out, also fixable if you can solder.

under the hood its all the same, hubs, axles blowers, belts. all of its the same. you can order a engine part for a 03 gp, then bolt it on a 98 regal. as the engine is the same. so is the tranny.

take it for a test drive, see what you think. it handles the same as a gp too. so you know how the ride and performance is already, so take the same ride in a car with different skin.

Thank you for all of your help Scotty! It is greatly appreciated, I'm gonna check it out on Monday. The Regal in question is a 99, is there anything in particular about that year I should know about it? I know people say to avoid the 97 GTP's like the plague, so I'm just curious.

Here is a link to the car we're discussing, let me know what you think!

funny but its got dual heated seats, yet the pass side is not power. thats just odd lol
