Depending on your budget, you can pick a G8 with some miles for a pretty good price now days.

I've talked to Dave numerous times on the subject, they still heat up MUCH more than the iron block 3800's by quite a bit. Even not beating on it, my trans temps would sit north of 215* EASY...my stock 3800 trans never saw temps over 190* even on a hot day. And it was far from factory. It also never had a cooler on it.
After the built trans and the cooler, I haven't seen any temps over 181*.
That- And if you want to hate life with your daily driver.
Oh, how original. LSx Fbodys will blow the doors off anyones GP, GTP, GXP, whatever, and you know it. Facts are with F bods, most are beat down by now, '01-up T56s are also made of glass, and the OEM 7.5 rear is laughable at best. They are uncomfortable, the rear seats are useless, and jealous idiots love to make stupid comments about them. But, by God, can they be fast. And you know, the king of the trailer park drives this.
To the OP, if money isn't a huge issue, look at a G8 GT. They're still a bit pricey, but a hell of a lot better car. If you don't need 4 ports, a nice GTO is a kissin' cousin, but due to age again, nice ones command big $. Also, the rear seat access in the GTO is pretty bad. Honestly, can't tell ya what to buy, but my pick would be a Gen2 CTS-V
I love seeing your posts pop up and be like...

I'm just here for the Lulz, with an occasional splash of reality.
I personally think the GXP makes a great daily driver, but I am biased. Out of the box, you are already at the power level of a typical 3800 with pulley, intake and exhaust. The engines have a very nice exhaust tone, even stock...and the gxp comes with all the bells and whistles (leather/ suede seating, staggered 18" wheels, Premium Bilstein suspension, leather wrapped wheel, larger brakes, tap-shift, Monsoon stereo and etc).
As for the quirks everyone is mentioning...none of these issues are specific to the GXP. All W-Body cars suffer from anemic transmissions, poor wheel bearing/ hub design and less than perfect steering geometry. Does this make them poor choices? Absolutely not! It is just like purchasing ANY used cars...be informed during the purchase process and make sure you take the time to asses the vehicle front to back.
Hope this helps, and good luck with whatever vehicle you decide to purchase!
You know the economy is bad when people start using the word jealous when referencing a $3-5k vehicle. Thanks a lot obama, can't wait to see how much worse it gets in the next year, or God forbid when the dollar is no longer the worlds reserve currency. People will be bragging about their Treks to Mongoose riders.
