Hey guys brand new to the forum. Just bought an 02 GT last night.

It needs mufflers bad but I've searched and cannot figure out what size muffler I need.

Some says 2.25, some says 2, some says 1 7/8's.....

Basically, what size inlet should I be looking for when searching mufflers? Also, what brand sounds best on the 3800? I have Borla on my truck and love it, just not sure I want to spend that much on this car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to get new mufflers and tips on ASAP. Thanks!!

Honestly I don't know, but what I can tell you is some knuckle head put 2.5" on the stock pipes, and it was done at a shop so any decent shop shod be able to put about anything on. As far as sound make sure you keep the resonator in there or you will get that blatty rice box sound. These split journal engines don't sound good without a resonator and muffler.

    2.25" is the stock size.

Stock mufflers are best. Borla's are nice, but still loud.

Thanks guys. Bronco Boy those tips look mint, love it. I like the sound of the Borla too. I don't mind it a little loud haha.

Is it easier to get a 2.5" to slip over the stock pipe and weld OR get 2.25 and do a butt weld type job?

If you like loud, mine it too loud and has 2 chamber Flows. It depends on if you're going to take it to a shop or DIY. If you take it to a shop it shouldn't matter, if you plan on doing it yourself then are you going to weld it or clamp it?

Yeah I've been YouTubing different set-ups...not sure which one I like the best yet.

If I was going to do it myself I was going to try and clamp it. I've never done that before though. I take all my trucks to the shop for exhaust.

Just not sure I want to throw too much money at a car I spent under $2000 on...

The correct muffler is 2.25" offset inlet center outlet iirc.

Either method done properly will be fine.

If you are doing this in your driveway, I'd go 2.25" and some sleeves or band clamp. My buddy did mine, so we had access to all tools at his shop. We did a lot of relief cuts, then crimped the pipe to the right size, then weld.

Awesome, I might give the clamps a try.

Anyone have Thrush mufflers on their set-up? Looking at those or Dynomax Ultra-Flos

2.25" mufflers will slip over the stock Y piping no issues. You'll have to fill up about 1/4" with welds to get it to seal (On the bottom usually). 2.25" offset/center is what I always got, either ways.

    I had Thrush Turbo's on all W's I had.
