Thread: fuel filter replacement

want to replace my fuel filter cause its old, and i have a bit of slow acceleration on the highway. say that it was only like $10 or $10 for the filter. video on YT was done on a GTP but is it still on the driver side? are there any "easy" ways of going around this. it seems like its easy enough but are there any tips on doing this. and like how much gas do i lose. oh and what kind should i get?

id get what ever the parts store has. its better then the old one.

when you take it off have a pan to catch the gas, only whats in both sides of the line will leak out for a while. a quart maybe.

one you got the easy plastic clip side off. you want to hold the line nut still, and turn the filter off the line nut. the filters got a part for a wrench on it.

if you turn the line nut it can twist the line.

so don't get one online, even its cheaper? the vid said to get one with the plastic clips? none of the ones i saw online had plastic clips, just a tube leading out of it. or are the clips attached to the line? couldn't i collect the gas and out it back in? lol I'm cheap

well some gas will end up in your arm pits if your doing it right lol

the plastic clip is on the line, you pinch it and it comes off the filter.

you can buy a cheaper on on line. thats fine too if its cheaper,

Never happened to me. You are clearly doing it wrong Doggy.

If the plastic clip isn't on the new one, transfer your clip over.

maybe short folks got it easier, it runs down my hand to my fore arm, elbow, and next stop is the arm pit lol this working off your back of course, like most of us do.

Im not exactly short but im not exactly scotty size either and i didn't have that issue lol.

while were on the subject of fuel and stuff my fuel pressure regulator has like green lime scale or something on it and its not sealed. you can see a gap between the top and bottom. is it supposed to look this way?

i just looked online and they're pretty expensive. could this be a JY part?

I don't relieve pressure or anything.. Crack it.. let it leak (without being directly under it or staring at it) and then wipe up the gas, spin the filter off.. spin the new one on, reconnect plastic line.. turn key on and check for leaks.

Done

thats how i roll too. over the years working on 4x4 trucks, lets just say its a more direct route down your arms.


my 03 GMC i had to change the filter every year. after 12,000 miles it was clogged up, it also had a line nut on both sides.

NJ gas..

Regal has 258K on it..pretty positive it's the original filter

owners manual says every 30,000 moles. but if you floored it off the line and it bogged before the shift it would then stall. fire back up ok. so after it did this a few times. i changed the filter. didnt happen again for like 10 to 13,000 miles. change the filter, all gone again. you could also not blow through the filter at all. solidly clogged up. so i just started changing it every 10,000 miles.

remember, i was doing 3,000 miles a month at the time, and getting gas from all over the place. gassed up a lot on long island. so maybe bad NY gas? dont know really. never had another car or truck do this before. this one needed a filter every 3 to 4 months.

Dude.. you know I was doing 1,000 miles a week for the longest time. Getting gas wherever as well. NJ/NY gas sucks.

how do you relive the fuel pressure?

While car is running yoink the fuel pump fuse. Or do what bill said.

fuel pump fuse sounds like a better option lol

or put a rag over the shrader valve on the fuel rail and use a screw driver to push the pin in to let the pressure out the line.

either way gas will still drain from the lines a little bit. but you want the pressure relived.
