I'm running out of brain cells and can't imagine what that looks like. Imo the guy to cut the top off a 55 Nomad, then scabed on some Ford parts of any year ought to be jailed.

Sorry he died, but dang he took a part of me with him with his abomination.

Thanks for sharing tho I always like reading what your working on. Even if it's the silly stuff

Ha. Thanks. Just surf up "nomad el camino" but have a barf bag handy. My subject was crudely done but there have been some that were not. The why... I just don't know.

Speaking of silly, there were some snow days recently and I had been wondering if a 68-72 GM truck's body could be shuffled around to make a car body. Came up with this, lol. Yes I was high as a Georgia pine but its a pretty color.

Somehow I don't think that is this guy's motivation. Met him yesterday. A tree fell on it long before we were born. Nomads were not desireable at the time and theres nothing new under the sun. The bed thing was what to do about something having the misfortune of being a Nomad. They did not sell well. Both are reasons for current rarity of uncut ones.

Installed a new alternator on the '03 CV LX Sport after diagnosing a charging issue. Got 19 years and 244K out of the factory one so not going to complain. Build sticker on it is 10/02. Will find a place to have it rebuilt since OEM stuff is getting harder to find for the Panther platform.

I lost heat in the GP last week. Of course it was cold as fvck with ice and snow, so why not right? Finally got warm enough today to make up some hoses and flush the heater core. Took 3 rounds of vinegar and I don't know how many flushes (forward and back) but finally got clear water out of it and didn't see anymore chunks of junk coming from it (I used clear hose so I could monitor). Topped it all back off and let it run to open the t-stat. Center vent now measures 150* with the fan on full blast and idling. My hands and feet should be much better now.

I got the GXP back from the shop.

    Let's start at the beginning.
This was March 25th & I was out celebrating my bday. Buddy & I had just left the theater. Sitting at a red light on a very busy street some girl changed lanes right into the GXP crushing the right side of rear bumper, the support underneath & warping the quarter panel.
I didn't waste time. I dropped my car off at a body shop on April 1st (no joke) for an estimate & repairs. I only did this since my dad has way too many projects & didn't have time to fix it himself.
After many many conversations with both insurance & the shop a partial payment was made on April 21st & the shop proceeded with repairs. This was the other person's insurance btw, AllState.
Replacing the bumper, support & repairing the quarter panel, that's all it really needed. The shop for some reason replaced the spoiler and repainted the trunk lid. Fine. These repairs made for a high estimate.
Yesterday, May 12th, a month and half later, the car was finished & insurance hadn't made a final payment or written off the car as a total loss. So I paid the remainder of the bill and took the car.
Today, May 13th, lnsurance called & had some choice words about the body shop doing basically whatever they want. Needless to say they wrote the GXP off as a total loss and sent me a cheque. I used that to cover everything I had paid. Whatever's left might buy paint to refinish my hood?

So it's all finished now & I gotta say I don't want to ever have to deal w insurance or a body shop ever again. This was a nightmare.

    For a fender bender.

Not sure why they replaced the spoiler and painted the trunk lid if there was no damage, kinda odd. You would think the shop would have called you and asked?? I dunno, almost sounds like the insur. co. told the shop to do that so they could write it off in the end since it's an "old car". You could probably get the hood redone for $400 or so if you ask around. That's what it cost me for a color change on my F1 hood and the quality is great, not a Macco job.

I hate dealing with ins. co. on any car claim. Fought with State Farm on my 95 T-bird back in the day and ended up winning but I had to kill them with like examples to justify the cost before they agreed. In the end you got to keep the GXP and I'm sure it looks better than it did so that's a plus.

I've gotten to the funner parts of that job now after doing new floor and rockers. There were other projects too since Feb, like replacing qtrs on a 66 Tempest. But the nomad camino job is down to welding up roof and some fabbed bed rail cap thingys.

Trouble is... I just don't have any way to post a pic. Gave up forum participation in general and quit pictures altogether. I wouldn't mind showing it though.

Sounds like your whole experience sucked royally. Like anything, take comfort in the fact that others have it worse.

Look at the employee parking lot of any shop, you'll see that dirtbag garbage is all we can afford and maybe that can help aim the blame. I'll spare you from what we think about people who can't fix their own junk.

My approach is to maintain two matching cars. Try that.

Not long ago a fender bender came into the shop. Boss said thats our last collision repair. Thats great because the reward for providing that service is an unending stream of internet bashing and uninformed derogatory assumptions.

I ain't upset and do sympathize and am glad you are back in your car its just... bodymen get the same rap as politicians. Face spit is part of the job.

Been using the GT last couple weeks. GTP is down with less than 400 miles to go to make the 300K mark. A fan motor burnt up and a new fan assembly is partially installed. It was more than I could handle on a weeknight so I'll wrap that up today hopefully. GT rolled past 190K couple days ago and I drove the 69 to work yesterday. It got a fourth or fifth dose of hail damage recently and the GT, it's first. Not many GT dents but right belt molding destroyed and a windshield chip turned into large crack.

Counting my blessings though. Faw weeks back, an F3 tornado spun up very close to the house.

New fans are in. Driver's side is noisy. I suspect casting flash on blade hub that might wear off. Had to reroute the fan harness due to different clock position of connector from stock. Points left rather than down and theres enough wire to reroute and rewrap so thats what I did.

Today's weather is perfect. A 455 romp will wind that up nicely. I'll go back under my rock now...

Yeah the overall experience was stressful & I didn't like it but I gotta admit I am satisfied with the results. Definitely a learning experience for me since I've never had to use a body shop or fight insurance before.

That said I'd love to post before & after pics. What's a good app for that? (I no lover use Photobucket)

I'm also fairly certain the only reason the spoiler was replaced was to get new gaskets for it.

My junk (GTP) joined the 300K+ club over the weekend. Luck got in one more lick though... had to put new front tires on it last week. But I am impressed. She didn't feel a thing.

Had to replace the cat over the weekend and then decided to clay bar and throw on a coat of wax. She looks purty again.

That looks great. Clear still looks like its in good condition. I need to do this to my GP and Vic and get them looking proper again. This heat is not the time for that so a wash is the best I can do.

Ambient air temp sensor went bad, again. Seems to happen every summer.
Anyone know why this happens? Cuz I'm getting frustrated with my temp gauge saying it's -22 outside (it's 100* out) & my A/C compressor disengaging.

Are these a cheap aftermarket one? If so maybe try a Delco one, or if you are running a factory one maybe check the wiring harness plug and see if the weather seal is in good shape. Maybe it's letting some moisture in and it shorts it out??
