Again from your other thread, I'm not far from the valley.....and you do have the ability to learn mechanical skills!! You have a car of your own. You will learn so so much more and faster by turning a wrench then you will anything else.

Being a mechanic and tinkering are very different.
Being a mechanic: Getting rust in your eyes, cuts, burns and bruises as part of your daily work. This time of year it means having snow rain on you.. hot weather all summer.. name it.
Tinkering: Scheduling most things on your time. Doing the research and having that extra money you save in your pocket.
I see you were talking about replacing the coolant in your car. Doing a lower intake gasket job... well.. that's basically an extended coolant change. Not too long ago.. I called changing a flex plate a coolant flush.
You have to start somewhere. If he wants to learn you just have to start wrenching on something! Let's be honest there isn't a thing on a car you can't do if you have the ambition.
