    Guys,

I'm looking to sell my stock red '97 GT w/ 167,xxx miles on it. I'd like to get $2,000-$2,500 out of it but being a '97 from Michigan it goes without say there are rust issues. It was my DD until 1.5 years ago and has been my around town car since and is getting used less and less. Car is located in Northern Virginia now.

The bad: The largest issue is rust, with the rocker panels that are completely rusted through to the point that passing safety inspection in Virginia is questionable depending on who is doing the inspection. Gas tank door rusted and its creeping on the quarter panel. The body has it dents and dings as well and hood has a small 1" crease on the front right.

The good: Mechanically the engine and transmission are great and she drives strong and true. Regularly maintained. New firestones with ~10-15k. Interior is in good condition, no rips, tears, stains and has never been smoked in. Rear left brake line just replaced, new resonator, new mufflers and new rad and hoses.

I'd love to keep the car and put new rockers panels on it etc but unfortunately I'm getting ready to do major construction on my house and need the garage space and cash....and the SO hates the car. With the rocker panels rusted through I'm not sure what to do, I've had some mechanics in NOVA (northern virginia) tell me to scrap the car b/c of the rust which I don't want to do but maybe have to? So...is $2k reasonable? It could easily be a DD again but probably not in VA unless the rust is fixed. If anyone wants to part this car out for some extra cash that is an option too, I don't have time to. I'll move this to 'for sale' when I get some pictures in a few days. What are you guys thoughts?

TL;TR - '97 GT in VA, mechanically sounds, interior good condition, rusted out rockers and body has bumps and bruises. Is $2-2.5k reasonable, or is it scrap? Thoughts? I'll take offers.

If the body rot is as bad as you say, i dont think you'll ever see 2k for it....

I'm not telling you wht to do, but you'd almost be better off parting it out.... You probbally wont make 2k on it as it is. And if you do, I'm coming right down there with my 01 GTP, that has very little rust, and low mileage, and selling it, cause i cant even get 2k for it here in Ontario, Canada

You'll never see 2k for it. I doubt it would bring 2500 mint. Its a 97GT, which aren't very sought after.

    Part it.

Rusted out like that realistically if someone offers your 1000-1500 take it and run.
    04 GTP -HAI, 1.9 rockers.

Yeah I'll admit I was being overly optimistic at the 2-2.5k price tag. Realistically, I'm expecting 1,500...and thats still hopeful. Virginia doesn't see much rust on their cars so it'll have some tough competition on the market.

@Speedy thats disappointing you won't get that for you '01 GTP. I wish I had time to part the car out but as I mentioned earlier, just bought a house and am prepping for 2nd story addition and complete re-model. Any interest in parting it out to make some cash yourself? I'll meet ya half way... haha
