Drive to work today.. 35ish miles at highway speeds, then backroad speeds. Look at phone upon arrival and see a message from my other half "Good morning sweetheart, I think your car is leaking oil". Get out and look.. sure is, and it's leaking pretty good over at the passenger side. Right around the oil filter area.

Question is.. is it from the crushed oil filter that I left on there when I changed the flex plate? Did the oil pressure sensor blow it's load (Scotty's favorite), Did something kick up and magically make it leak, or ... D all of the above?

Bill cares enough to make a post, so I'd say C and D are out. Considering the oil filter is smushed, I'm going to say A.

true story. as soon as i saw who posted it i knew its a gag thread.

heres how i see this going down. bill checks his oil, see its full enough to drive or not, then im sure while at work if its not wet outside like it is here, can look for the leak, figure it out, then hit the parts store for a new oil filter or hardware store for a plug to fix that dumb worthless oil pressure sensor should it be leaking.

Scott... I'm out in the middle of the woods at work. Closest parts store looks to be like 10-15 miles. I'll buzz up the road to a gas station and check it, grab a couple of quarts and drive... If it blows, I'll part it and buy something else.

I'm going to guess pressure sender. Oil filter would have leaked right away if it was the problem. Never a good feeling wondering if you had oil pressure during your drive.

IIRC, that isn't a huge concern for him. Isn't he the guy who bled his power steering system with ZERO oil in the crankcase?

LOL.. Yeah that was me. Only ran it for a minute and didn't put it in gear etc. Yes though.. it's not a huge problem if something happens.

Let's call my solution the ScottyDogger way to fix oil leaks. I pulled the connector and the culprit was the oil pressure sensor. I checked the toolbox drawer for a sensor (there's a misc sensor/pigtail drawer) and found 8 of them. Since this is not one of the body styles with a gauge and I had plugs on hand, I tossed one in. Scott says it right when he tells people that there's no value to that sensor. The light comes on when the pressure hits 5psi and the motor is already toasted. Why bother with a sensor? Plug it is!

Did an oil change at the same time.
