Do most guys here run stock ones, or are a lot of you on aftermarket superchargers? I've heard some of the older (and even newer) superchargers tend to 'go out' around 150K on a lot of these vehicles, is there any truth behind that?

Nope. If anything it's the coupler that goes out and that's a easy fix. And unless your going custom there is no aftermarket sc pure say.
I think most guys know turbo is the next practical step up from the M90. Keep fresh oil in the stock one and it will for sure outlast the transmission.
Well, I'm mostly a bodyman so I would have to research here to say where, power-wise, the stocker leaves off and the turbo prevails. A good idea would be to establish how fast you want to be then price setups then meet in the middle wherever your budget lies. Serious power means a huge investment in supporting mods, and the cars aren't worth much so you have to be careful and plan the buildup to reduce unnecessary spending.
Not to thread-jack but this kind of applies. Are there other superchargers than the Gen 1 (m62), gen 3 (97-03) and Gen 5 (04-08)? Are the other generations on different cars or do they only go by odd numbers? Just something I've always wondered.
TVS is a gen VI which is an even number.
I cannot speak as to which gen the 3800 M62s were, but I can say, there were likely considered two different gens as they added a coating for the later years.
huh didn't know there was a gen VI. was just curious thanks.
92-93 S1 SC 3800 was M62 Gen 1 or 3 I honestly forget at this point. Uncoated rotors, coated body of charger with thermal paint
94-95 S1 SC 3800 was M62 Gen 3 or 5 again.. who really cared back then. The difference in this version is that the rotors were coated and the thermal paint remained on the body of the charger to help disipate heat.
96-97 S2 SC 3800 was M90 Gen 3 had a vaccum tree by the TB, thermal paint on housing.
98- S2 SC 3800 was M90 Gen 3, had no vacuum tree by TB and no thermal paint on housing.
04-08 S3 SC 3800 was M90 Gen V with better rotor coating and slightly better efficiency.
The M62's used on Cobalts is not the same M62 as the 92-95 S1 SC 3800 version of the M62.
The M distinction was used with a number that explained how much air was displaced in cubic inches per revolution. M62 moves 62 ci of air per rev, M90 moves 90 ci.
On modding, reality is .. in the long run a turbo would be cheaper than all the stuff you need with an SC to be anywhere near the same power level. on either you need a built trans to handle it and parts for the transmissions are becoming hard to find like unobtanium.
