Hey all, if you don't know, I bought a 98 GP a few weeks ago. Finally got it running and driving after an engine swap and some elctrical issues, and after digging, I guess it's got pioneer speakers all around. I've got a pioneer double din touch screen in my 95 corsica, and had to do quite a bit of fab work to make it fit, but it looks pretty good (IMHO).

I'm going to be selling the car, and the radio isn't going with it. I'd like to put it in my GP, but the factory radio slot is 1.5 din I believe. I have the blank cutout template that came with the radio, and it looks like I just need an extra 1/2 or 3/4 inch to make it fit.

Does anyone have a step-by-step guide, or a list of what has to be done? I'm not very good with fab work as far as plastic goes, and I guarantee if I have to chop up the dash bezel, it won't be pretty when I'm done. I'd like to do it without moving the AC controls if possible.

Can I cut up towards the vents? I haven't even pulled the bezel off yet, so I'm not sure how much room I have to work with.

Should I expect this to be a multi-day project, or something I can get done in an afternoon with a dremel and some bondo?

that's relocating the AC controls though. I don't really want to do that. I like the little cubby pocket.

I'm a poor kid on a budget lol. $200 is almost as much as I paid for my engine, and I still have tons of parts to replace on this car.

for 200 bucks, I could buy 50 12"x12" sheets of ABS plastic, 5 dash bezels from the junkyard, a can of bondo, spray paint, and the double din dash install kit with 2 wiring harness adapters.

But if I come across some extra money before I start tearing into this, I might just buy one. Lol.

Its only 110 if you send them your old one..just saying if u want a clean loom and not good with fabrication this is an option, or go to a jy and get another bezel and learn to fab it..doeant seem to difficult.

That's kind of my plan, textured ABS is cheap, and I have a hot wire for making smooth bends in it. Bondo is cheap too, I may have a can or 10 lying around the garage. GP's are a dime a dozen in the junkyard, so I'm planning on buying one to practice on, and if it turns out well enough, I'll just swap that for the existing bezel in my car.

HOWEVER: The bezel isn't my main concern.

Are there any clearance issues behind the bezel? Will I have to remove any plastic/brackets/factory crap from behind the dash bezel to install the double din radio?

nice, that sounds easy enough. Any way to retain the factory steering wheel audio controls? I recall seeing an adapter somewhere, but I forget if it's head unit specific or "universal".

This is a.pretty clean look as well...there are adaptors to.make the controls.work..I think it depends on your radio brand what is used.
