I have a 2007 Grand Prix with 160,000 miles on it, and it starts just fine when the engine is cool. However, if I run to the store for 10 - 15 minutes, and then come out and try to start it again, it will turnover and then stall immediately. If I give it some gas after starting it, then it's fine and will continue to run.

I've looked around the internet a little, and I see some say it's the CPS, or the ICM. This same thing happened on a 2005 Grand Prix that I had with a lot of miles. Coincidence?

start with a Throttle body cleaning. i bet its filthy.

the cps and icm would make it misfore, or stall while its running.

Is it recommended to remove the TB completely? Or to just clean what you can after disconnecting the air flow line?

I've never removed one before, so how difficult is it to remove one on the '07 GP?

take the air filter tube off open the flap inside, the carbon build up is behind that brass flap. clean the sides of that flap and the back of it, and as far back and around the walls as you can. a old tooth brush and a rag work well to clean it up.

if you want to take it off you just un plug the sensors, and un bolt it, some coolant will spill out, this is normal. then clean it up in hand.

carb cleaner cleans it up nice too.

Thanks. It won't hurt anything to manually open the brass flap to get back in there?

Have you experienced the same stalling issues after the engine is warm?

It will only stall when starting it after it is warm, but if you give it some gas before it stalls, then it will stay running after that.

Cold starts she would fire right up but if I drove for a bit ect. it would die it almost sounds like it starving for fuel or something but its really choking for air because the carbon build up is blocking the slight crack in the TB the car needs to idle. Just clean her up. you will be amazed the difference it makes its pretty cool.

This may be a dumb question, but are the TB's the same for all 04+ models? So if there was a video on how to remove and clean the TB for a 2004 GTP, would that be the same process for an '05 or '07?

Just pull it off the car, it's 4 bolts and you can get both sides of the plate and the bore itself a lot easier... just takes a second.

Well, we spent about 3 hours cleaning the TB (both sides) and as far inside as we could (engine side). I could not believe the buildup. I stuck the rag in on the engine side, and I actually pulled out a small chunk that was pretty much covering that little hole. (Sorry, I don't know the official term for that). We scrubbed and scrubbed, and probably used about 3/4 of the CRC TB cleaner can. The TB looked was almost new after we were done, and we did the best that we could engine side.

The difference in the way it starts and runs now is like night and day. No more stalling after re-starting warm, or having to give it gas to keep it running. And we can even use the remote start now.

We also cleaned the MAF while we had it out.

I'll need another can of the TB cleaner before I do my own 2005 GTP. It shouldn't be as bad since I just hit 80k.

Thanks again for everyone's input on this. It truly made the difference.
