so whenever i hit a bump or something i hear a knocking noise from the rear driver side strut area, so i assumed it was the struts and had a friend replace both rear struts. long story short im still hearing the noise and have no idea what else to check, we took out the seats and interior panel in that area and cant find anything that seems loose, i have a coupe and the noise is like in the area of where the seatbelt comes out of on the side, if that makes sense, any ideas? i dont know what else to check and the noise is really obnoxious

Strut mounts are probably shot, happened to me on my old GT. Change the struts for quick struts and call it a day.

How do your rear strut towers look for rust?

I mean I have the exact same issue and have never really figured it out. It didnt change at all when the struts/mounts/springs/swaybar etc all got fixed. Only thing I can think of is strut towers. Because my left side one has started rusting a bit amazingly (since its never seen more than half a winter). The right one is perfect though. I only get it fairly infrequently though. Used to get it very specific speeds.. But yeah... same exact thing.

both of you guys could try kicking the mufflers. make them move, see if you can duplicate the sound.

i lost a front hanger, and then my add a hanger came loose and it was knocking around over bumps. i fixed all the hangers and its been quiet since. ( from the rear end) i still need new sway bar bushings for the front clunk i have.

so i had a shop inspect the car and found that its because the towers are totally rusted out, along with the rest of the undercarriage and body down there, so looks like ill be selling it and looking for something else :/
