Thread: No backup lights, trunk release and fuel level is always reads full

Starting with I have a 2000 grand prix 4 door. This is what I've done. Backup lights and trunk release I know are on fuse 27 under the hood. Fuse is good. Changed the park/neutral safety switch thinking that might be the problem, it wasn't. Took the trunk release solenoid off and hooked it up to the battery and it worked. Checked the bulbs in the backup lights and they were good. When I read volts to the trunk release, testing the connector without the solenoid hooked up. It reads 11.24 volts when the button is pushed in the glove box. When connected to the solenoid it reads nothing. Solenoid works when hook directly to the battery. Moving on the the backup lights. Volts read 0 and .24 when the brake lights is pushed and same reading when it is put into reverse. Moving on to the fuel level reading, I just cleaned the connection underneath the car by the fuel tank and that did not help. Any help here would be great. Thank You

Thank you. I will do that today. Need all the help I can get. First I will take out the fuel pump and see how the connectors look. Dorman does not make a fuel level sensor for a 2000 grand prix, at least not on their website. Also just looked at couple other part places for a fuel level sensor, not seeing one. Scottydoggs, where in the trunk to look for the connector and where would it go from the trunk to the fuses? From what I think, it should go from the battery to the 27 fuse then to park/neutral safety switch, then to the back.? Not sure. Thanks again for all the help.

Sorry for not posting back has been raining here and no garage. I seen the one connector coming from the trunk to the bumper. I was in a good sealed waterproof connection and didn't want to opened it or really could not figure it out how to open the connector. It really looks good. Heading into town to get a wire diagram or just a shop manual for the car and new solenoid for the trunk. The solenoid works when connected straight to the battery but I'm thinking it might still have a short in there. When it connect to the back I'm thinking a load or short will not make it work right? This electrical work just wants me to pull me hair out.

Went and got shop manual. No help. does not mention the trunk solenoid or reverse light. Fivefingerdeathpunch was right with the fuel sensor. I need help with Where does the reverse light wire go from the battery to back seat or truck area. I know its no working from the back seat, forward to the battery. I know it goes from the battery to fuse number 27. Fuse # 27 has power. Trunk solenoid has power when button is pushed. Where does the backup or reverse light go? Thank you for all the help. I'm just going to put in a toggle switch for the backup light cause I cannot find the problem. Find a new trunk solenoid and fuel sensor.
