    I'm installing my boost gauge soon and I want to hook up my gauge to the dimmer wire for my cluster and all the other lights on the dash. Because the cluster is light sensitive it shouldn't matter though, right? Because all the stuff like the dic stay lit up all the time, so shouldn't the gauge do the same?

    Try an autometer dimming switch. I plan on doing the same thing.

    I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. At first it looks like you want to hook it up to the dimmable lights on the dash so it dims with the dash. (not good since they're not going to be the same brightness, you may want the boost gauge dimmer but the dash brighter. You could get away with it by installing a resistor to match them though/tinting)

    Then it looks like you want to hook it up to the dic since it doesn't dim, but stays on all the time when the key is on.

    If you want the gauge to dime hook the dimmer wire up to any light that come on with your head lights. Then when you flip on head lights the gauge will dim.

    I did this once upon a time. To be fair, I took the easy way out.

    Just find the two wires on the back of the dimmer switch that gets you a ground and a variable positive output from the switch. Cut, solder, and seal.

    It's visible during the day, because there's sunlight. At night it's visible because it's backlit.

    If you really want it on all the time, turn your parking lights on.

    Or just hook a pot inline with the lightbulb. But then you have to go through the hassle of finding a knob for it, and a location to mount it.

    Why? Because I'm doing something to MY car? It doesn't matter what anyone does to their car. Everything is a waste of money when it comes to cars unless it's routine maintenance.     Needle boost gauge is easier to read then the AF.
