what brand is the fob? as far as i know 97 never came with remote anythings but dealerships would install viper systems but if its aftermarket its very easy to tell simply look under the dash for a couple loose hanging electrical modules (not the really big ones that are factory) with a thousand wires coming from them and look like theyre not factory so look for solder butt conectors electrical tape etc
The manual says the 97 does have keyless option. Is it true that the reciever is under the back lid
Ain't there codes on the trunk that say weither or not you have keyless I thought I read it on here
this is the correct way to program key fob. the last section 97-03 GP

does the fob look new? there is always a possibility that the PO got a new fob but some how bought the wrong one. Another thing to try if possible separate the fob halves and see if theres any broken or burned circuitry. ive had to re-solder many gm factory fobs and almost all of the were atleast 10 years older than yours.
K Ty guys will look and yea the thing ain't fried I think it looks old
