They were standard on cars till like 99-00 iirc. My 97 has lights my 01 doesn't.
Why did they stop? I was wondering why my 02 was like that. Probably money, and no requirements to have it. How do you add the circuit? You'd need a wire that's hot only when a door is opened, and there are no other lights like that on my door panel.
Technically if you are going to run power in for just an LED bulb you could probably tap into the power from the floor light and run it into the door.
Right, so I'd just have to run one new wire through the boot into the door panel. I'd need a bulb holder and the right bulb as well.
Step one.. know your circuit.. you need both wires from the interior circuit and yes you can tap off the floor light. Theater dimming does something odd with the ground, so make sure you bring both in.
Me.. I got the wiring out of 98's doors and put the circuit back into the stock location in the connector at the door hinge.
That explains it, mines an 02.
I do believe that all the interior lights have the dimming/ switch on the ground side so if you run the power and try to ground to some other ground the light will always be on.
That's weird that they did that. It just means they had to run a separate ground wire to each light instead of using the frame.
Yep mine doesn't have sockets or wires either. 03 here
On my 98, I don't even use those courtesy lights, I did however use that wiring for my puddle lights.
Dig around in the door my 97 had the connector in there then there are two metal tabs you can grab from jy that the bulb holds in place when you snap it in add connector and you are set
