This has been bother me a lot lately so I figured I would vent a little on here and get some feedback.. I have a friend that bugs me non stop to go synthetic in my GP before 125k miles because he claims its much more better and last a lot longer. A jug regular oil is about $15-$20 and for synthetic its between $25-$30. So pretty much its $5 per 1,000 miles of travel is how I look at it. Regular can get you around 3,000 miles before recommended change and synthetic can get you about 6,000 miles before recommend change right?

So pretty much you pay a little more to get a little more miles before needing another change. To me it sounds like synthetic is more of a lazy oil for people who tend to forget to do oil changes or don't care so synthetic gives that extra mile. I was reading on the back of "Valvoline Oil Full Synthetic" and it says that using this product it can guarantee you vehicle can last up to 300,000 miles. I know a few people who have always used regular and have had cars last between 250k-300k+ miles and still going...

Yeah i'm sure synthetic is better but by how much? Regular or Synthetic, its all about the maintenance really.. Any vehicle has the potential lasting a very long time if its well taken care of. I'm pretty good at keep up on my oil changes and check my fluids once a week to make sure everything is good. I'm at 115k so I was wondering should I make a switch or would I be completely fine as long as I keep up on my maintenance?

Also I would like to know what oil some of you GP fella's are running in your car.. My first change I used Penzoil 10w-30 but I was thinking about switching to something else like Valvoline. Also I heard its best to use 10W-30 during the warmer months and 5W-30 during the cold months, true/false?

I run a synthetic blend in my cars. I figure it's the best of both worlds. Full synthetic can lead to oil leaks so I like the properties of both. Synthetic for more friction protection (in theory) and conventional to swell gaskets and prevent oil leaks. I know a couple of people who switched to full synthetic and have started leaking oil. This is what I use. 5w30 in the winter and 10w30 in the summer Valvoline 5W30 MaxLife Motor Oil, Valvoline High Mileage Engine Oil, Synthetic Blend Motor Oil, Automotive Motor Oil

If you click the link Madness posted you will see that there are a lot of conflicting opinions by a lot of experienced and knowledgeable people.

I would always run synthetic if you can afford it. Especially in a boosted car.

My dad swears by Mobile 1 full synthetic oil. I just use the Valvoline Max Life, like tms8582 said it seems like the best of both worlds.
