I had my service light come on and I read the code which said it was the high temp fan. I took it to my local dealer and I was told my entire main fuse box needed to be replaced ( the one under my hood ). The cost was $1300, they did a price match which lowered the price to $1100.

After paying for the repair I left on a trip ( medical trip 300 miles away ) 90 miles out I get the service light again, I read the code again and it was the same code that I just paid $1100 to replace. I got home and took it back to the dealer and this time it was in need of a new high temp fan which I paid $288 for, I wondered if I really needed the main fuse box so I asked and I was told that the high fan relay was not fitting in the slots tight and it was causing arching. I looked at the original part and it looks brand new. I have 72,000 on my 2004 Grand Prix GTP

I would like to know if the fuse box can be tested by someone who has a unbiased view, this way I can know for sure if the $1100 fuse box really needed to be replaced or was it the high temp fan that was the part that really needed to be replaced.

    thanks

You could ask for others to look at it. Heck.. it could be tested with a multimeter while someone wiggles the parts.

However.. The dealer should have the correct tools to remove the pins from the box and replace/tighten them. Personally I don't believe you needed the entire part replaced.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
