the module piece that screws on top of the pcm? what does that do if i rearrange them?
im trying to get more info. but its on 3800pro.com
Why do I have Knock Retard after replacing my PCM? - 3800Pro.com Forum
ohhh man i think im boned. i dont have the original pcm to swap the module off of =/
is it still possible to get a case relearn done on a 97 maybe?
i have some spare coils off of one of my old cars. ill swap em on. the coils are bright red and the wires are zzp brand. ive ziptied so many things today... and at wot about 70mph or 4500rpm in 2nd gear only it jumps to ten degrees kr *usually and stays there. this car is maddening. it seems to be a speed issue... the top of the strut mount plate on the passenger side likes to free spin on the bushing as well
im gonna guess they aint good for our engines. its rainin pretty good here at the moment but ill put the other coils on as soon as i get a chance. ..im gonna say that the worst part of dealin with our W body cars. is tryin to diagnose a motor that countless people touched before you lol
got the delco coils on. dont have any wires layin around that id trust. gonna test drive. wish me luck
**improved throttle response random kr at mid throttle. and a whole gob of it at high rpm. the only pattern at all is that it seems to be biased somehow on the exhaust frequency
i mean the car is pretty loud. no resonator. cobbled leaky downpipe. no cat. the whole car rumbles at idle
i just pulled plugs off the front of the motor to check the scoring. the number one had oil on it. valve seals? yeah i hear ya man. im half tempted to write it off as a basket case. i got another car to drive till winter. maybe i can throw it at a shop until they figure it out XD
...newish downpipe but stock design. and the inner wall appears to be collapsing. i put the 605 plugs in and nothin changed much. would the exhaust rattle cause crazy knock? especially at higher rpm?
my bad 606 plugs. i got the autolites
maybe you have restricted flow causing it to have kr
It's got nothing to do with your ignition.
Check your DP for clogs, but it sure sounds to me like a trashed suspension. I had a problem with an axle causing KR at certain speeds due to it's harmonics.
I never changed away from the factory knock module on the 97 that I used to have, but I was pretty sure it was the LT4 knock module that everyone swapped in.
But, if you are going to swap this motor into a lighter car, I would recommend that you get a 98+ wiring harness and PCM. Some 97's just have bad luck with kr.
