Tools are listed in the thread. The how to ... I feel any couple of monkeys could successfully complete. Matter of fact.. I know of girl that swapped her own motor with relatively the same encouragement when she was 19.
Question here is... do you wanna save Otto, or let your friend down?

So you are saying you can't get this done in a day? ANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNT, another wrong answer. (you could even put the tires back on overnight. Hell, go out the evening before. Drain fluid, disconnect battery, starter, diff to eng bracket, vss, crack the trans to engine bolts free, remove converter bolts, remove brackets and wiring etc. In the morning, you pop the car on stands, drop the sub, lower trans out, put new in.. sub back in place.. and rehook stuff.
I had a guy local ask me to swap a trans into his kids car. Shows up with the car, the trans etc. Says "I know you work out of your house, not a full time mechanic, but she's been without a car for four months. Do you think you'd be done within two weeks?". I nearly fell over, then said "You'll be driving this car tonight.". Did it all alone and on the ground aka no lift etc. Guy drove that car home that same night.

Like my whole thing is even if i pull the out then trans... idk what to do after. Plus it doesnt help that I have 50 hours of school every week. I know im full of excuses but say if i had someone from this forum there to help me do it, i would do it in a heartbeat. its just sad that no one around here deals with auto trans, most of the dudes around just drive manual civics.
But honestly, the biggest problem mentally for me is the fear of screwing something up even worse.
And Cant take of hood scoops, it will look even more retarded because previous owner painted flames on the hood -__-.

Actually something came to my mind just now, i looked at that link to take trans out that way, is there anyway to just take out the trans without removing motor while still at the ground @billboost?

The instructions don't have you pull the motor. Only reason the pictures show the motor out of the car is so that you can see the bolts. Trying to get those pics in the car is nearly impossible. The instructions linked, have the motor suspended and only the subframe and transmission come out.
We have a lot of members around everywhere. Have you tried posting up in the southeast section suggesting you'll supply the pizza and some money to buy beer.
On the 50 hours, that's a no go excuse. I work a full 40 hours, maintain a house by myself (yard/housework/laundry etc) and have a girlfriend. I have a lot of time where I help friends, go out do tons of stuff and still ... in the last 2-3 weeks, I fixed an electrical short in my neighbor kids GP

sooo no, 50 hours of school isn't a valid reason for not doing it. If you can turn something clockwise you can tighten it, if you can turn it counter clockwise, you can loosen it. If you break down the various parts of removing/installing something like this in the car, it's one bolt at a time and you loosen them to take it out, tighten them to put it back together.

Now that i think about it... doing this would save me a **** ton of money. But what do i once i take the trans...? I know my forward band is screwed but now i think its even more than just that...

Btw will a 98 trans work on my 01 gtp? cause i know a place where i can get an already rebuilt trans, so all i would have to do is swap.

You buy one from a local JY for $250-$400 and when you take this one out, you put that one in. Fill it back up with fluid and Otto is a happy car again. You'd be in for maybe a couple extra tools, fluid and the cost of the trans. Plus beer/pizza for a friend or two.

Like i said im throw money on top of to those peeps. Thank you for making that post in the florida thread. I found a shop that has one laying around from a 98 that was rebuilt but the costumer never picked it up. I bet i can get it for 500. If i can get those peeps this weekend it would be perfect. Its the only weekend i have a good amount of time off.

that might be a little quick. But who knows.
Reality is ...these cars are very easy to work on. A little how to and some confidence go a long way. Add in common tools and a 4x4 post.. heck.. you can swap a trans.

Confidence... something that im lacking of in this subject matter, Aka why i need a buddy that knows his stuff as a confidence boost. I need otto back on the road asap. its really starting to get rough about getting to school that 30 miles away.

Once you've done things a few times. You know which tools, where etc. I jack the car up, grab certain tools and go under. I don't have to get up and down repeatedly for different tools. My box is also in close proximity to where I'm working, things are organized and my hand automatically goes to the preferred (easier to use) tool.
Work on Otto a bunch of times. You'll know the bolt sizes and realize that if you have a plug socket, 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 18mm you can do most work on your car.
