Thread: 2001 GTP 4 door questions

Several years ago I had a 98 GTP coupe, that I loved, but it had some bad rust issues. I am now in the market for another GTP and found a 2001 sedan (two kids now) with 102,000 miles on it. It appears to be extremely clean, and is allegedly a one owner car. Dealer claims he won't take a dollar less than $5,500. Do you think this is a fair price?

ask the dealer for 5 bucks worth of what ever hes smoking.....lol

run kelly blue book, for your area, and see what they say its worth. dealers always over charge, as im sure you know.

and then like i tell every one, take the car to a shop of your choice, pay the 50 or 100 bucks for a inspection, that way you know as much as possible as whats worn out, and needs fixing, or whats on its way out. and you use that stuff against the price. no matter how small the issue is.

unless they agree to fix it all then you may be stuck at their high price. you just need beat he guy up if needed. i beat my dealer from 1600 to 800 on his mechanics lift for free. (not literally lol ) its easy when you find 2 grand in shop prices worth of repairs needed.

KBB retail is 6,400 and even private party is like 5,200.

I'm actually a service manager at a major tire chain, which has some stores nearby the dealership, so I had plans to check it over anyways.

run a carfax if they don't have one for you. make sure its 102k before you do anything else. it will tell you how many owners as well. 40 bucks. 50 you get unlimited tag checks and 5 vin checks for a month.
but 5500 is too much. age is certainly a factor besides mileage. age wears things like gaskets, struts, ball joints, vacuums, hoses, belts, tires, batteries even if the mileage doesn't. if its been garage kept its whole life and they've had it serviced regularly with fluid flushes the age won't be as big of a factor.

if you pay 5500 for an 01 all that stuff should be brand new with new fluids and minimal body flaws. that's how i see it when buying an older used car.
