    Thanks for any advise,

The subframe on my 94 Grand Prix is rotten. Can I replace the subframe? If I can how difficult to do it, and where can I buy the subframe if none of the junk yards do not have the same year of my vehicle. It still runs good. I would like to save my old friend if I can.

    I appriciate for the help.

    Cheers,

    Carl

Carl, you are talking about the front subframe that the drivetrain sits on?

I'd like to tell you car-part.com however I think it's primarily US based. How close are you to the border? Maybe someone can throw one over the fence?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I could be way off here, but I don't see any reason you couldn't suspend the drive-train from something and drop the cradle all by itself.

You would want the car on jacks of course, and be careful when lifting the drive-train to take the weight off the motor mounts. You don't want to take the weight of the vehicle off the jack stands.

I would also inspect any area underneath where the sub-frame bolts to the body for rot.

Thanks guys, and sorry for the late reply.
If I use the engine support bar to support the engine, do I need to support something else from the top before I drop the subframe?

    Jack the car
support the engine by using the bar
unbolt everything from the subframe and drop it

    Thanks for any advise.

    Cheers

I don't think the item you are talking about would be ideal, though I don't know your car personally. You want to be able to lift and lower the engine slightly from above. Remember you need to get the new cradle lined up and installed, chances are it's not going to just slip right into place where you want it.

I think your method could work, but it also might lead to a massive headach come installation time. You can by an engine hoist for 100 bucks or so on craigs list, or you can rent them for short money at any tool/equipment rental place.
