So my friend has been searching for some GTP's lately and stumbled upon this one. $3995 with 133k miles, 2001 silver GTP. The interior is nice, the exterior paint is fine. It has a couple dents on the rear fenders, the rocker panel on the driver door seems out of line a little, and the hood doesn't line up well, nor shut properly. After a long 8 second cold start, the car fired up instantly after the next few starts. Letting it sit at idle and reving it, the car sounded good and nothing out of the norm I could hear. The dreaded intake gaskets seemed to be holding up well with no signs of leakage.
The only problem so far is that the car was previously in an accident and repaired, but the hood doesn't line up 100% and we couldnt get it to close. We didn't test drive it so we don't no 100% how it runs and how the trans is holding up. Was just wondering what your guy's inputs are? The paint and leather is really clean however, its just the hood/accident report that has us redflagged and it will be test driven next week as well, which will pretty much determine where to go from there.

I would not pay anywhere near 4k for a 2001 GTP with over 100k...

The hood is an easy fix, you just have to adjust the arms and latch. It takes some time, but isn't hard by any means. It probably put a bend in the fender since it doesn't close right.

The rocker is probably sticking out due to rust. Did you check the strut mounts?

It sounds like it needs a fair amount of work, I would pass on it unless they are willing to let it go for $1500.

I'm sure you could find one in much better condition for the price. Travel some if you have to, it would be worth it.

For 4k no way. Sounds like it needs a lot of TLC and for a 4k car it really shouldn't. Travel if you have to expand your horizon don't be so set on finding one just in your area. That being said I would offer around 1500-2k tops!

Ya that does make a good point, but he doesn't want to travel far for one. But it kinda does need alot of TLC but i doubt the dealer will take the bite.

Most of them are high but Of course 99% of sellers ask a higher price then what they would take for it to try to feel like they've struck gold. Sadly 96% of them won't ever get that price and will settle for less especially when cash is involved.

01 BUICK REGAL SUPER CHARGER GS - $3300 (CHICAGO NORTHWEST)

Last one. Just throwing some ideas out there. Go on CL and look at GTP, SSEi or Regal GS. They are out there for decent money.

Then your friend has issues. Not going to find a mint GTP for cheap. Buy a cheap one with minimal/no rust and start from there......

He just posted 3 what looks like good GP. If he's picky then he realIy needs to expand his horizon and find exactly what he wants. What I've done in the past when shopping for cars for other people is find a few that I wouldn't mind having and is priced right and let them go from there. Don't like what I've found then they're free to do it on there own

X2. I'm guessing he was set on the one you posted about that needed a bunch if work? But yet he's very picky. Scratches head. If its the color or the interior color that can always be embraced or swapped. When I bought my GTP I wasn't 100% satisfied with the color or interior color. But the features and mechanics of it sealed the deal. Years later its right where I wanted it to be.
