I have been losing tranny fluid for some time now so I found the general vicinity of the leak(drivers side axle seal). I started to replace it yesterday but the cv axle was being stubborn and wouldn't release from the output shaft. So on yanking and pulling and I accidentally pull the inner cv boot off. I'd say about half a quart or better of trams fluid ran out. Anybody ever seen this before and what causes it???

It has to be. I just don't see how tranny fluid could get in there

Well just an update. It was tranny fluid in the inner cv boot. I took the car to my mechanic since I couldn't get the cv axle to pop out. My guy said there is like a metal plug on the end of the shaft that wasn't seated right allowing tranny fluid to run through the shaft and fill the boot.

a plug in what shaft, the axle?
im not aware of any such plug myself. i have been wrong before tho.

Thats what I thought too. It is an aftermarket shaft that I put in about a year ago.

i put a napa axle in my car, and had them both out during a trans swap, im not familiar with any plug, the axles look pretty damn solid to me.
with any luck someone who knows better will chime in on this one, may have to wait till Tuesday tho lol
im curious as to how trans fluid could make it into the boot.

yeah, its just the rear tranny output shaft seal. That seal could leak tranny fluid if its damaged or worn. The plug he was talking about was probably the retaining clip. Its basically what holds the axle in place which helps the sealing also(most cars anyway). The mechanic might have thought you wouldnt have known what he was talking about so he just called it a PLUG(sort of what it is anyway, helps keep from leaking right).
