i would love to switch over to a GXP but dont have the money, i personally like the Bonneville GXP better then the GP GXP but thats just my opinion if you get it have fun with the V8! im not sure what problems they might have alot of the problems may not have been found yet considering they are still kind of a newer car. you would have to hear from some of the GXP guys on here
the only upgrade i see is being more comfortable in a bonne gxp. v8 mated to 4t65- youre gonna have a bad time. its slower than your gtp. doesnt get very good gas mileage. im seeing reviews and it looks like the average is about 21 on the highway going 75. lol. the engines are DOHC so they are harder to work on...pretty sure its a northstar?
Pros: None
Cons: Everything
2004 Pontiac Bonneville
Engine Specifications
Type: Gas V8
Size: 4.6L/278
Horsepower: 275 @ 5600 RPM
Torque: 300 @ 4000 RPM
What is so bad about this engine? I was looking at one also.
1. It's a Northstar
2. See #1
3. Take a look under the hood, plugs are impossible
4. They have head bolt issues if you try and push them
5. It's a 4T80E
6. Fog light wiring harness issues
7. yeah..it's comfy...but it's a Northstar
If you have a junkyard near your house...go visit it. You'll find a ton of caddies in there w/o a single scratch on the body. The reason being is they have northturds in them. The head studs, gaskets and heads are prone to issues. The head bolts are in aluminum....right. The kit to take it all apart and fix it is $2500ish all by itself w/o labor. The motor is huge and there's no room in the bay to work on it.
No junkyards will sell Northstar motors used. They have learned that it's not worth trying to sell one because they are all junk.
They aren't called sh1tstars for a reason.
Just google it.
It ain't hard to find plenty of issues.
Also, have you ever seen a more confused interior finished car in your entire life?
Plastic, Aluminum, Carbon Fiber, Leather, Suede, and other brushed metals?
The lulz.
