    Hello,

I have developed a reliable and cheap fix for the common occurrence where the keys get stuck in the ignition in the Grand Prix. I have a 2002 Grand Prix and when I got this problem I went online looking for a solution. Almost everywhere I looked said I needed to replace the ignition switch. Except for one post on edmunds.com which indicated two cables could come loose from the center console causing this problem. When I opened my center console I found out that these two wires had come loose. I did a simple repair that you may be able to do with parts you already have around, or under $40 if you don't have any of these parts. Here is a link to the YouTube video where I show how I did the repair.

The parts you may need to use are available of my ebay store. Now you can go looking for these L -shaped terminals yourself but they are extremely hard to find. Also you will be forced to buy in bulk, like I did. So I sell my excess parts for you to use in your own repair. Here is a link to the item on ebay.

If you have any questions please let me know. I hope this is helpful information.

Since my post about this repair my keys have not gotten stuck in the ignition. My Youtube video is closing in on 16K views and I have sold over 250 terminals to fellow Pontiac owners and i haven't had one tell me my repair failed to solve their problem.

It's funny, my gtp started doing it occasionally, then after about a week the keys decided they would NEVER come out. Then one day at church as we were pulling in, my dad was driving and I said "since we're at church we could pray that the key comes out"... and it came out! And now it almost always comes out! No problems at all lately!

Zip tie worked for me too. Was free and took 10 seconds

Lol my key system is so messed up and I dont care at all. I have this issue and I've just gotten completely used to hitting the button under the steering wheel. It takes me about 2 seconds to hit that button and get the key out. Totally used to it.

At the same time some stupid car detailer couldnt figure that out once and just reefed on it for ages until they broke my tumblers in my ignition as well. So now I can start the car and pull the key out (or if its in the right position start it without a key), which I actually find to be useful for when I forget something in the house and already started the car and locked the door etc.

Yup ima have to do mines also, after I had my tranny rebuilt this issue occurred which I've never had a problem with before (Tranny shop claim they have nothing to do with it). So can the original terminals be re-used along side just re connecting the wires? Key works for the most part which tells me that the terminals are good and that the connection is just not secured. So this is definitely the solution(I was thinking ignition switch myself)?

I just removed the little solenoid in the column that causes the key to not come back to the removal position. A side effect of that though would be being able to turn the car off and remove the key at any time in gear or not.

well on my 2002 gtp theres a little hole on the bottom side of the steering column that has a release button for the key recessed in the hole you could install a bolt/screw to keep the button pushed in

Two reasonable idea's I didnt even think of, that bolt sounds quick and easy though. Did the bolt work/stay in place without falling out?
