    My daughter has a 1995 Grand Prix - 3.1. The car has an intermittent problem that can go 2-3 weeks in between occurrences.


    It runs like a top, but will suddenly lose power while driving and die completely. After a while it'll be fine. (starts up again.)


    The lights will flicker and give a bit of warning before it dies.


    I had both crankshaft sensors replaced a month ago and I though that would do the trick.


    Please help - my daughter lives in a not-so-great part of town and I am starting to get worried about the car's reliability. It's very tricky, because when it not having the "ghost" problem, the engine is purrs like a kitten.


    So, if not crankshaft sensors (both replaced) what's your collective best bet of the issue?

    hmm. well she says the engine light flashes before it dies? i think that means that there is a misfire.

    Lights flicker... not engine light. Must read Grasshoppa

    I'm assuming by now you've checked the battery cables to be clean and tight?
    97-03 had ignition switch issues that could cause a stall. Might be worth wiggling it with her big blob of keys on it when it's started. We know you have just a couple keys on your ring, and hers is probably 30lbs.

    I am at a great disadvantage, because I have not witnessed the car doing this once. (10-12 stalls in last two months) I can only go her description of problem.

    The lights flickering could be the engine just about to die.

    Battery is fine and checked, good connection . . . keys not the problem.

    She has told be about a occasional lack of power without stalling . . . could it be bad ground on fuel pump? After some internet searching, I found a guy with a 1996 Bonneville with similar symptoms and turns out it was a bad ground located by drivers seat.

    Is this a possiblity?

    Bonne's (as you can see by my sig, I know a thing or two about them) can be tempermental about electrical. Much more than a GP. Because everything on them sucked electrical like they had their own nuclear generating plant. So yes..the ground busses by both front drivers doors could get wet and corrode easily. Another thing I found on my Bonne was even though the battery cables were tight, if you pulled the bolts out and pulled the cover off the end of the cable..corrosion was pretty common there. That can cause lots of issues as it's the electrical of the car.

    The light flicker shouldn't happen when the engine stalls. keep in mind..I'm saying "shouldn't". As you know it's tough to diagnose when you haven't experienced it.
