Drove th SUV to do some errands, was 95 Degrees out here in Orange County. Now its 99, and freakin hot, came home and opened up the hood to get some of the hot air out of the engine quicker and the engine seemed to like the open air. Wish i can just throw some water on it and cool it more, the heat is not nice to engines these days.

As long as an engine stays below 212 it's fine. Above is getting too warm, as the fans should kick on (or a belt driven fan should spin 1:1) Speaking of being hot under the hood, what is the point of the hood liner? It seems to quiet engine sound and keep in heat, both things I don't want. I saw somewhere removing it is a "mod". Is it a good idea? I like the sound of the 3.8 engine, exhaust is okay but I like the engine sound better.

I think the material would help stop a under hood fire, but it likely couldnt.

    I just ripped mine out.

QFT. I'm not putting my money on the hood liner from stopping it either.

Never new that hood liner did that, thinking about it it was stupid to of on our GP it always got hot and started to rip too. The SUV we have does not have it so is that a good thing? ALso the hood liner is that black thing on the GPs under the hood right?

I never noticed any difference when I took it off and I don't see it making the engine any louder personally. I thought it looked cheap and cheesy so that's why I removed it.
