Painted my calipers. I looked everywhere and couldn't find another picture of silver calipers with black brackets. I found a few the other way around. I'm also flushing the brake system, and doing a much needed complete brake inspection and lube. Spent the day on it and still am not done, plus one of the bleeders broke...I will get another caliper and be done. I chiseled all of the loose stuff off, then took it real good to the wire brush. Then cleaned with brake cleaner and painted 4 coats on everything. I still have a lot of paint left of the two caliper paint cans. The left 2 are for painting the under body.

2 more calipers to go (rears) and I'm done.

You painted the surface of the rotors?

It's so that the centers of the rotors will be silver. The brake pads will chew through the silver paint only in the contact patch. No more rusty looking rotors!

I understand your reasoning, but I'd be concerned about the paint getting on to the brake pads and causing issues...

I guess if you are worried about that you could always cut a carboard box up to cover the braking surface of the rotor...either that or run the rotors with old pads for a bit and then swap on new ones.

The rotors were very rusty before, along with the rear calipers. You see so much of them with the torque star rims it's crazy not to paint them. I never aimed for the friction surface of the rotors, and was planning on just letting the pads take the paint off, it wouldn't take long. I guess if I really wanted to, I could tape up the hat of the rotor and wire brush the friction surface, although if I let the pads wear it, the paint would be perfectly conformed to the real friction surface and look better. Just a few months ago I just had old pads that I could have used. Oh well I can take them off again and lightly sand the pads if it causes a problem, which is unlikely.

Here is a picture before. Man that right rear rotor and caliper really sticks out, that's ridiculous.

If you never aimed for the friction surface you are not a very good aim. Very bad idea to let the pads take off the paint. You are going to end up killing yourself or someone when the pads can't make proper contact due to contaminents, ie paint, all over them.

Rotors rust when the car sits for more than a few hours. Nothing you can do about that.
