Is it eating tires because you are putting crappy tires on it? I see them in all the time and most tires last 40-50k. The stock factory tires only last 25-30k because ford is cheap.
The tires chosen for the car were purchased based based on best overall review on ford focus forums and several other sites. They were not cheap. The car wears out tires because from the factory all wheels have a negative camber for ride comfort. This is a problem that is known that I personally talk to a ford rep about. They refused to change it because of ride quality. The tires from the factory were Hancooks which are total junk.

our 2007 Mazda5 went through the same situation. The negative camber in the rear ate through tires fast. The only way to not eat the tires was to rotate them every 2-3k miles. We had it for a little over 3 years before I was fed up with it and sold it.

So I've had dog bone mount flipped for three weeks now. But I've never really just sat in it with the engine idling... well its definitely made a huge difference there. Feels awesome!

I still don't understand the whole reason for flipping the dog bones........

New tires will be needed next winter. Just bought them January 2011. The Bridgestone's have done best so far.

Look up the write up on it.

See how the "stock" way allows for movement, see where it can move. When you flip the mount inside the bracket, you stop it.

I would rather lose by a mile because I built my own car, than lose by an inch, because someone else built it for me. Your car is your story, so don't let someone else write the book.

ffdp is correct. essentially, when you hit the gas from a stop, your engine moves a little and then movement of your wheels. by flipping the dogbones, you reduce most of that movement to where when you hit the gas, the engine stays still and just immediately puts the vehicle in motion.
