Installed a Baldwin air filter today since I get deals on them at work. The seal around the air filter is really thick and it was a PIA to install. Yea going back to Wix after this filter is done lol

Also scotty, my pan is noticeably leaking now. The bottom of it was moist of oil. Its only a matter of time before i have to park on cardboard.
Max life is all a friend of mine ever uses lol. I have used it in my parents vehicles. Never once have I seen it help stop oil leaks though.
My car obtained drips on the pan when I bought my car, for some reason over time the leak has gotten better and it never has a drip on it anymore lol.

I've run full synthetic since I bought it. It made my earlier valve cover gasket leak 2x worse. Maybe that was what the oil on the pan was from lol. Stopped when I fixed them.

Synthetic is a thinner type of oil anyways so it will leak thru gaskets a lot easier

Went and got my tire patched, had a huge staple in it. Also had to do a burnout for the tire guys. They didn't think I could spin my 245s, but I proved them wrong pretty easily. Too bad I left TCS on...damn it, could have been so much better.

Yeah I found that out pretty quick lol. Went from a smell, to visibly seeing oil shoot onto the manifold, and smoke. This is how 3800s catch on fire.

Lee helped me with putting the new receiver and antenna in the impy tonight. Pretty sure he wasn't very fond of my idea as it was a *****. Have to take about 4 panels off to get to the one you need.
So now I just need to take it to the dealer in the morning and get it reprogrammed.

It's not really thinner if the weight and viscosity are the same..

A full syn oil is just far better in the way it can lube parts and has more cleaners, thats what takes away sludge and build up holding leaks back. Has better wear protection when engines are cold.

Not thinner or thicker. That's viscosity.
Flow rate on the other hand is increased with synthetic oils, which is key in helping with cold starts.

Noticed a few pages back- Nate has an old white T-bird... My next project is a white oh, 61 or 2. I did a 63 awhile back. They are cool cars, for Fords! The "bullet" shaped ones.

The 68 el Camino has all the glass in now, and the hood is on. I laid 4 boxes of Cool-It sound mat inside that interior this week, took two days just about. I actually laid entire sheets to start. Behind the dash was already done. I went hog-wild and covered everything including door skins. It does make a big difference, the doors shut like a bank vault.

The '41 pickup is back safely from SEMA and even got noticed for the engine swap (pics 6 and 7). A classic trucks magazine feature should be in it's future.

    http://www.hotrod.com/features/1411-...rucks-at-sema/

Kyle, MaxLife 10-30 is what I put in mine, great stuff IMO. The 69 gets VR-1 conventional, same weight. Tried VR-1 full synthetic in the 455 once, MAN did it like that stuff!

Booba, happiness is a smoky burnout ... even if its only one second ... because it all comes right in the window, ahh. Only good thing about FWD!

The 99 GTP rolled past 210K this week ... I think last week I checked tire pressure .... not much action on the GTP front. Last week I moved my spare eng/trans/frame/etc out of the way but theres a ton of 02 40th GTP crap I still gotta find homes for. I need to sell out of the Pontiac business or move into a warehouse. Or build a house from car parts?
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

I noticed the flow rate difference when I filled a new filter. Slow with conventional, while it soaks into the paper. Synthetic the same weight instantly goes right through the filter paper. Cold cranking was noticeably improved in my case too, on an old but good V8.

I still have 10w40 in my truck, cold starts are fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnn. And I still have to mod my block heater cord to work above 0ºF, ****ing GM.

It's been down into the teens in the morning and the next few days around zero or colder in the mornings, it's too early for this.

I gotta switch back to some 5w40 for the winter.

Def too early, might snow tomorrow here. Love those 50 degree temp change days like we had this week. Also love seat heat, lol.

Already got 6-16in in most places, my house was maybe 8in so far.

And now thats it's super cold everything is frozen, side streets still suck even have 5 days since the snow fall. My work has been busy as hell, one of the best weeks ever for sales but worst weeks ever for us mechanics/techs. Non stop busy with tires and winter services because people are so stupid and un-prepared for snow/winter.

Yeah I was looking to get some fresh tread going myself but the tires I like were of course discontinued now. I really liked the General AltiMaxHP, very good wet. Back to finding another kind to try. Anybody got a rain tire suggestion in 225/60/16? I want good ride and least noise. Its just tough to buy round tires anymore because quality is so sketchy on everything. You research the specs and find a favorite and buy some ... only then to find out they are poorly made. Hate how the showroom tires are made in USA but the set you order is made in Zimbabwe or something. Can't bring myself to put an Asian brand on it either, y'know? The Coopers on it when I got it are pretty nice, maybe I'll look at those.

The replacement tire for the altimax HP seems to be their Altimax RT and RT43, I'm a big fan of general tires as well.

Just put a set of RT43's on my girlfriends new cruze, made a huge difference, they have done great in dry, wet, snow, ice especially for an all season. Best budget all season daily tire I've ever ran on anything. I'm a fan.
