What did I do? Trick question, nothing. It's been sitting in the below freezing temps since Tuesday. It'd better start tomorrow morning for work, it's going to be 2° (fahrenheit btw). -17°F for the wind chill. I'm thinking of doing a cold start video, it would be the coldest I've ever started it.

Drove the Northturd to the doctor today, turns out I have the flu.. Wonderful.

On a different note, the old Eldo ate a Charger Tuesday afternoon. Pulled up next to a kid blasting rap at the light and he took off on me so I thought what the hell and pulled a good length on his V6 Charger then went on my way lol. For an old 4.6 Northstar it still pulls hard in 1st and 2nd. It falls on its face in 3rd though..

The temp alone this morning was like -10, plus windchill and you're at like -25-30. My car sat for 9 hours at work today with temps never reaching above 0, it starts kinda hard. Misses a few times, takes 3-4 attempts sometimes haha.

These temperature barriers are making it hard for me to communicate.... Haha

This morning, I started mine at -26 C, which is -15 F, and that's without windchill. Coldest start I've ever done was -34 C last week (-29 F) without windchill. She started but complained a lot afterward. Don't know the specifics of the windchill, but it was probably around -40 with it. (F and C same in this case).

Must crank slow. That's what I'd think since my engine always fires right up as long as it's able to crank fast enough. I have a new battery so my hopes are high.

Yeah or at least run synthetic oil. Conventional would be like honey.

Filled her with gas and checked all my fluids in prep for the cold weather coming. I also threw a few blankets in. I've never gotten stuck or stranded but I'm not about to be caught unprepared.
Had a hell of a time getting to and from work today. The driveway at home was awful tonight, I can only imagine how bad its going to be in the morning. Hello drift busting!

I run 4 quarts of whatever oil that is on sale and a quart of Lucus, mines a 97 and always fires right up on these cold temps, even after sitting a few days. But Im not in temps below 0* usually. My car has teated me good over these past few years, dispite its small problems like the fuel gauge not working and needing motor mounts etc.. I love my GP its the perfect DD for me

I'm still running 10w30 from summer/fall........LOL, I havent needed the oil change yet. I'm about 200 miles away, so I know the heavy oil isnt a huge help but I like to blame being modded and running 10-15% ethonal gas.

My battery is kinda odd, its never been what you call spunky but it'll aways crank at a steady pace. It's got like 900 somthing CCA at 70º and 780 at 32º. With the block heater plugged in it'll fire right off on the tap of the key most times.

I run 10w-30 all year long, synthetic so it's not hard on cold starts or anything, so no need for 5w-30. But I only change my oil like every 9 months lol. That's under 3k miles for me. But it doesn't make any abnormal noises even on my coldest start to date which was 13°F. Although the 3800 in general has a very unique sound at cold startup.

**** i probably change my oil every 3-4 months...that 3k miles. When i first got the car and did an oil change it was super dirty oil..but lately its starting to look cleaner and cleaner. Although this time i would of went about 4k miles since last change cause im waiting till the day before i leave my car to change it the last time.

Yeah I heard that's really the best way to clean an engine is just to do more frequent oil changes for a bit. I'm on my second one and it's cleaner at this point than it was on the last oil change. The oil from the PO wasn't really dirty though. Under the valve cover has always been spotless so that's good. I checked that before buying though.

10w-30 synthetic has the same viscosity as 10w-30 non-synthetic.

They both have the viscosity of sae10 weight oil at 0 degrees(w for winter). The both have the same viscosity as sae30 oil at 212 degrees.

Why do you want a thicker oil when it is cold out? Run 5w-30 or 0w-30 so the oil flows better at cold start until the oil gets up to operating temperature.

    This is true.

This is also true. What you don't seem to understand is that the term "viscosity" is not the same as the term "flow rate". Synthetic oils have a better flow rate at lower temperatures than conventional oils. (while still being the same viscosity) Viscosity does affect flow rate(which is why you suggest running a thinner oil), but flow rate doesn't affect viscosity(which is where you're confused). Hope that clears that up for you.
