Coming home from work and my power steering starts whining....hmmmm must be low on fluid. Get home and put some power steering fluid in and start her up and trun the steering wheel back and forth a couple times and she keeps whining...not as bad but still whining. Shut her off and look underneath the car ...oh looky....a big pool of power steering fluid. GRRRR
Had to go to Autozone to pick up a part for another car I'm working on and ask them what lines need to be replaced and they ask me if it's brake assisted..or something like that??? ?? So apparently on some of these car the power steering is tied into the brake system?!? How do I know iof my is one those? Sorry I'm being a little vague but this is all new tow me, tieing the power steering into the brake system....I'm a little confused.
Thanks in advance for any help

And to the Forum moderators, if this post is not in the right place, I apologize

No, the steering is not a hydro-boost setup. It's either just plain gears or maybe Magna-Steer (variable assist). If you have a single wire electrical plug coming off the rack where the steering shaft boot is on the drivers side then it's Magna-Steer.

theres a good chance its the return line thats just clamped on the pump leaking, they like to split a inch off the pump. you can just cut the line at the crack and put it back on the pump. line replacement is no fun. you need to lower the sub frame to get a good clear shot at the line bolts on the rack. not all that bad really, car on stands, jack under the frame, remove the two rear sub frame bolts and lower the jack 3-4 inches.

then the pump, should it need to be replaced is a super treat, theres only two bolts holding it to the engine, but your getting to them via the hole in the pump pulley, so your semi blind re installing it. ive fought with them for a 1/2 hr, and other times got super lucky and they just went right in place and bolted in.
