I am looking at a 1973 GP SJ with a 455. The engine color is red, not Pontiac blue? What gives? I have never heard of a red Pontiac 455 but then I haven't heard of a lot of things. Thank you.

That could be an Olds 455, as they used red paint originally. Of course if the engine has been rebuilt then it can be painted any color the person wanted.
Not sure if this is the case, but it is possible it could have come factory with an Olds engine. It was kind of a sketchy time....there was a lot of cross-division engine transplants among the GM in the 70's. IIRC correctly the Olds 455 is based on the Olds 425 and the Pontiac 455 is based on the Pontiac 400. Not sure how to identify the differences in the case it is a repainted block
