So I have a 2007 GP base with NA 3.8. About a year ago I noticed while checking the oil that there was the slight but obvious smell of gasoline in the oil so I immediately condemned the fuel injectors as the culprits and swapped them with 6 re-manufactured ones and changed the oil.
Since swapping them there has been no more gasoline smell on the dip stick or in the oil itself while draining however since the swap Ive notice that when I try and start the car after its been off for a short time with the engine still warm it seems to stumble a bit while cranking with an extended crank time like its struggling to get fuel, it always ends up eventually starting on the first crank and runs fine once it does. It didn't do this at all with the leaky OG injectors, this started immediately after replacing them. It also cranks, starts and runs fine when cold or while still hot, needs to sit for a bit to do it.
Obviously I am extremely suspect of these injectors as I believe this is a symptom of leaking injectors allowing vapor to form in the fuel rail, again strangely I didn't have this problem with OG injectors . so I popped them out of the intake while still connected (on cold engine) and cycled the key to prime the system and there was no visible dripping/leaking from any. I placed some paper towel under each and walked away for a bit and when I returned a half hour later a few of them had left a tiny wet mark of gas on the towel about the diameter of the injector themselves. is this a normal amount of leakage? my gut tells me there should be absolutely no leakage at the injector but would like confirmation on that.
I also connected a fuel pressure gauge to the rail and when primed it sits at 55Psi and slowly drops, after about a half hour its at 45Psi and after 24 hours it hovers around 10Psi. does anyone know if this is a normal amount of leak down? I seem to be having trouble finding online what to expect the pressure to do on this engine with its return less system.
any advise is greatly appreciated including recommended brand/part # of injectors if what I described above means they are junk.
