im having a love hate relationship with my '08 base model. i love it but its hatin me for some reason.
had the infamous pump squak and leaking so put a new one in today. filled and bled and had PS but then- just like that-gone. well- not comepletely gone. its there somewhat when the rpms are up a bit.
im hoping i just have to bleed it more, buuuuut.... could i have a rack issue, too?

How did you bleed it? On my 00 I had it in the air on stands so I could turn it lock to lock w/o resistance. Did that cycle for about 15 min, checking the level in the pump each time and filling as necessary. Was a PITA to get all the air out and kept foaming the fluid until it all got out. I also shut the car off to check the fluid in between and refill as necessary.

pressure valve may be stuckoff its seat and causing no pressure to build. ive had it happen several times with new/reman. pice of grit/fingernail/etc from assembly.

you can hold a high rpm while tapping the valve bore with a lang screwdriver and small hammer (its the cylindrical portion you thread the 5/8ths fitting into (3/8in HP hose fitting))

if it doesnt free up youll have to pull the pump out, toss it in the vice and remove the large nut on that cylinder (the nut is the part the HP line threads into) and youll have to pull it and the valve and spring will be there too, clean and reassemble after verifying the valve slides in the bore freely (youll need a small magnet to help extract the valve if you dont use needle nose pliers

How to Flush/Change Power Steering Fluid on the 3800/3.8L Engine

i got good clean fluid coming out, took it for about 10 mile ride and absolutely no power steering. when i was doing the wheel to wheel turn on the stands i could tell there was no PS. no squakin, though!
since this is a brand new pump, if its the pressure valve, i think ill take it back and try another one.
