    Hi All,

    Picked this beauty up about a week ago. 2006 Grand Prix Base. Has roughly 187k miles and purs like it should. I've always heard good things about the 3800 motors and I see why. Everything works minus the passenger rear door lock. I got a pretty good deal on it so I said why not. It's a daily driver for me now since my commute went from 30 to 100 miles daily. I didn't want to put miles on my Genesis so here we are. I've always had two cars to keep miles off the "fun" car so I've had a few. Hope to put another 50k miles on it before any major issues. Glad to be a part of the community. Few questions:

    1. CEL on due to "check gas cap". Any ideas where the issue might be. I've done some research and it could be the actual cap or something in the evap system.
    2. Anything to look out for with this type of mileage on this car? I've heard 3800 motors are bullet proof but would still like to know from actual owners.

    Any advice is appreciated. Genesis pic for tax. Andddddd since this is a "GM" forum, here's my C6 Z51.

    Nice looking GP you picked up. 187K is just getting broken in, lol.. Yes, the 3800 is a strong runner. I've got 396K on the motor in my 00 GP and around 300K on my factory 95 Bonneville and they run just fine so no worries there.

    If you don't know when any of the fluids were changed last I'd start there (including the coolant that everyone overlooks). Don't flush the trans, just do a pan drop and filter change. Should take around ~6 quarts to refill.

    Should have the upgraded LIM gaskets on it so no worries there. Coolant elbows like to go on occasion, as do the oil sending units. If you see an oil leak around the filter area then suspect the sending unit.

    The W-bodies like to eat front wheel bearings. It's not if, it's when. Go with a good replacement like Timken or SKF on those, don't cheap out.

    If there are factory plugs/wires in it then I'd change em out for a good set of iridium spark plugs and a cheap set of wires and call it done. Change the air filter, clean the MAF, clean the throttle body.

    Other than that it should last you a good long time with just basic maint. on it. Post the actual code up for the EVAP and we can likely give a better direction on that. Could be just the purge valve or a line rotted off somewhere in the system that is causing the leak.

    Thanks for the tips. I've change the air filter and put in some fuel injector cleaner so far. Plugs/wires will come. Not sure when the trans fluid was changed but I'll do that as well next oil change.
