    I'm interested in opinions of the value of a 1999 GTP with just around 20k miles on it. There is a dealer selling one for what I think is a nice premium, and I'm not sure if these cars are ever truly going to be collectible such that the price is warranted. Of course it's in pristine condition, single owner, garage kept, Utah owned (so assuming little if any rust)... and while condition is significant, I'm not sure there are prior sales to warrant the asking price. It feels like they just "want" it to be collectible to justify the $

    My interest is holding the car for a while, driving it some, not necessarily intended to have it as a collectible - but I would want it to most of the value I'm paying.
    I'd hate to know a year later in the same condition with a couple extra thousand miles it doesn't even value out at $5K.

    FWIW the asking price is $14K. For the right buyer, sure... but it's up there.

    I don't think these car's will ever be collectible. there are exceptions however, something like a 1998 Daytona, might be collectible. I would not pay 14k for an almost new Grand Prix. I recently paid 15k for a used 2017 Chevy Cruze that had 20k miles on it.

    Agreed, they're nuts to think any non-limited edition W-body is going to be worth much at this point. The diagnostic issues grow with age regardless of use, and these are not big collector's items due to the mass production numbers making them so common and forgettable over the years.

    Great cars for their time/style/potential, but it's hard to justify anything over $5-6k for a near-mint GM car of the last 25-30yrs. Yes, random out-of-touch rich guys will spend way too much on a low-mile Turbo GP, Petty GP, Daytona GTP, 40th Anniv., Abboud GS, Intimidator SS, etc... but there's little reason to actually justify it. (well, maybe the old McLaren TGP or Petty are worth a few thousand more than regular models, to the right buyer, but it's all a Barrett-Jackson style demand game)

    Thanks for the replies so far, guys. Definitely in line with what I was thinking. I guess someone has to be “first” to get a collectible value, but I don’t see it standing long term in this case. As much as I’d like to pull the trigger, I would hate more looking back at overpaying thousands.

    $14,000 is highway robbery. Maybe half of that absolute tops right now. Its just the dealer thinking they have something special & waiting for a sucker to bite. Who knows what will happen in a few years with Pontiac being no-longer, there being less & less of these on the roads year after year & these reaching the 25 year old threshold for being considered "classic". I don't think any late 90's early 00's Grand Prix will really break 5 figures down the road especially now with the dwindling aftermarket support...maybe the '98 & '00 Daytonas, SLP GTX & 40th anniversary. Definitely more collectors item than a Grand Am or Sunfire of the same era for sure

    It seems a bit pricey. I Purchased a 2004 comp g for 11k about 30k miles . I feel that I overpaid for it but as time went on I was happier with the purchase and feel it was worth it.

    I would stay firm at 10 K. You have to be willing to except that fact you have probably overpaid a little bit but if it’s what you want it will be worth it in the long run every time you look at it and drive it.
