    This weekend I want to try and remove the front seats from an 06 Grand Prix and put them in my 01. The 06 is in a DIY junkyard with the battery removed. Both front seats are slid back far enough that they are over the top of the mounting bolt heads. And, only the drivers door is unlocked. So I gotz to power up the seat motors at the very least and, possibly the door lock switch on the driver's door.

    My plan is to take my Dewalt 20v battery and some jump wires with alligator clips into the yard. I could of course just connect my 20v Dewalt up to the battery leads but I'm not sure if the door locks and seat switches need the ignition key on to work?

    In case they DO need ignition key on, then I need to jumper into the switches. For the power seat I'm just going to cut the body harness on the body side of the seat connector and hope I can reach it well enough to splice power into it. For the door locks, I think I'll just pry the driver's door switch module out of the panel and figure out + and - wires from there.

    Has anyone got good advice for me? Is there an easier location to power up the seats and door locks? Like the fuse block or something? Thanks for any advice!

    why not bring a car battery and connect to the battery terminals underhood? or alligator clip your dewalt battery to the battery terminals. you might pop a couple bulbs but you'll have enough juice to move the seats . you don't need key on to move them.

    Not allowed to bring car batteries into yard but for some reason OK to bring cordless sawzalls/drills/impact guns so I can get the Dewalt battery in. Tool bags are searched going in and coming out. Also not allowed to take a car battery off of their battery for sale rack and take it back to the yard to hook up to main cables. I think the main point is safety - they have no way of knowing if some guy like me has come along and cut a harness - then next guy comes along and connects a battery and then we got sparks and fuel sources.

    12 volt cordless drill battery and some jumper wires that will clip onto the battery. then start poking wires on the cars side of the plug, you need both sides of the plugs, so cut em long and play power and ground finder game on the wires.

    Thanks to Autozone's online schematic database, it looks like powering the seats should be easy. Apparently there are 6 way and 8 way powered seats on w-bods. So the power wire from the body harness into the seat base will either have an Orange wire into pin A or a Red/White wire into pin A. Ground (Black) is on pin M.

    Power door locks is more complex. Can't power up just the switches on the door because all they do is send command signals to the BCM, which probably needs both power AND a happy feeling about who owns the car before it will actuate the door lock solenoids. So I'm still looking for the right schematic that shows the solenoid wires. Will update once I know and will def update if I succeed!

    Update - found the door schematics! Door lock actuators are bi-directional and powered through a gray and a tan wire coming in from the body harness. If there's a door harness main connector then the gray wire is on pin B4 (Front doors) or pin E (rear doors). The tan wire is on pin C4 (front doors) and B (rear doors). If you're just into ripping open the door cavities to expose the door harness then these wire colors continue all the way into the actuators themselves (except by then you could just pull on the lock rods and get the doors to unlock).

    I got my seats yesterday! Passenger side was very easy. Driver's side the seat was as low as it could go and far enough back to be covering the access to the mounting bolts. I had a tough time locating the body harness and fishing enough of it out to where I could cut it and strip the power and ground wires. If it had been 1" shorter I would not have been able to do it. Powered it up with my Dewalt battery and ran the seat forward. After that it was simple. Took them home, cleaned them off, took mine out of the 2001 GTP and swapped the new ones in. 1st drive was to work this morning. Still getting used to the feel.
