1999 Grand Prix 3.8
Long story short: Car was running just fine. My wife drove home and parked. I went out to drive the car a couple of hours later - it was dead, dead, DEAD. Starter solenoid wouldn't even make a clicking sound. Ignition relay was energizing (clicking) but nothing beyond that. I assumed it was the battery and took it to a shop. They tested it and said the battery was OK, but was totally discharged. They put it on their charger. I tried to jump the car with my truck battery, but noticed that the last jumper cable connection sparked even when the car was sitting idle. Checked resistance between battery terminals of the car and it showed a SHORT!
Started pulling fuses to see what would make the short go away. The Ignition Main fuse (40A) did it. I replaced the Ignition Main fuse and pulled, one by one, the secondary ignition fuse (15A) and the ignition relay, but they did not eliminate the short.
So, I have a short in the main ignition circuit, and that's what ran down my battery. I now need a circuit diagram so I can isolate the short. Anyone have one or know where I can find one?
If you have a clue as to where the short might be, please let me know. The strange thing is that the short is mild enough that it isn't blowing the 40A main fuse, but enough to drain the battery. Also, I did not smell anything burning when the battery discharged or when I tried jumping with the truck.
