So I've had my GP since 2009. Bought it was 26K on it and it only has 68K on the engine and tranny now. Thing is that it doesn't pass inspection and I've already leased a new vehicle. I can't decide what to do with it. I've put a lot of work into it whether it's replacing worn out parts or upgrades. I can't leave it sitting in the driveway uninspected and without plates much longer.
Ideally I could part it out to get the most money for everything but once it's parted out I'd be pulling so much suspension stuff off of it that it wouldn't be able to roll. It'd be on jack stands and idk how I'd get it to a junk yard. Selling it as-is vs junking vs parting out I'd make the most parting it out. I'd also want to pull the engine and tranny and store them on some stands because even though I won't have one anytime soon I don't think I'm done with the GP scene and would love to put them into a car in the future. The other option is still fixing it up and having 2 cars but that makes zero sense right now. That's kind of the pipe dream though. I really don't want to get rid of it because I've enjoyed the car and have lots of memories with it but can't keep it right now either.
Just so everyone has an idea the parts I'd be pulling are...
- struts with lowering springs
- ZZP LCA's
- BMR strut tower braces
- BMR trailing arms
- headlights and taillights
- ZZP CAI
- Borla exhaust and ZZP res w/dual tips
- upgraded front and rear sway bars
- GTX rims
So as you can see it wouldn't go anywhere easily. What would you guys do in my position?

I've scrapped a couple and was able to put the carcass w/o suspension onto the garage floor or on a couple of 2x4's just to have it on something. Then I posted a craigslist ad for a scrapper to come snag it with a flatbed. Pulled it right up on w/o an issue.
The engine/trans.. leave them bolted together and sit them on the floor. It'll sit in a corner really nice w/o any worry of falling over.
After doing a similar thing, I'd suggest that the best thing you can do financially is move on and either sell the car as modded with rusted body or part it and move on as well. Don't save stuff and move forward. While the 3800 platform was fun and cool, it's basically over unless you lived in a rust free place like AZ. It's no longer a sought after platform or car. The parts will only fetch so much on the forum... just the way it is.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Been there before. My friend and I had a bunch of time/money/parts into it and it just didn't make sense to keep it after a certain point. After sitting for years in my garage it was time to find a new home. I hope that somewhere that 95 Firebird is alive and well. Still have a complete LT1 upper setup for it though, just because.
If you decide to part it out please let me know. I'd like to buy BMR STB's and trailing arms. Would like some more info on the upgraded front and rear sways and the heads/tails as well. Feel free to send a PM. The platform may be dead, but I still love my GP and am still working on it.

Thanks for the input. I'll part it out then and just save the engine and trans. I love the car and feel like that's the heart and soul of it. Maybe one day I'll do something with them.
FordMan, Getting the STB's off will be easy enough. The trailing arms and sway bars will have to wait until I get it somewhere up on jack stands. My driveway looks like the surface of the moon so I can't do any work like that at home. I'll PM you the details on them and the lights. I don't want to turn this thread into a sale thread.

So I have another question that goes along with the original sort of.
If I decide to keep the engine and trans I'd get a stand. Except from what I can tell I can't keep the trans connected to the engine while on the stand. What is the best way to go about doing this? Hopefully someone knows of an easier way than storing them separately.

leave them bolted together and put it on the floor in the corner of the garage. if a dirt floor get a pallet to store it on.
it can sit there resting on both pans. takes up less room that way if storing it.
