    Yes, it's 4.5.

Just fill the thing up with 5 full quarts. The pan never truely has 4.5 quarts in it while running because the oil is being moved around, so it's more like 3.5-4 quarts in the pan. I always run 5 quarts to give it extra oil in the pan at any given time, though if it was a more performance based build it would do better there than a daily driver.

With a filter change I always do 5. Mine has over 120K miles, so it always using some anyway.

Having over 170k, I been using synthetic but is there really any benefits? I may do the oil myself and pickup some synthetic oil but I usually get it done at Costco for pretty cheap and can't be bothered for the price they charge.

Synthetic oils are better than conventional oils and do allow for longer change intervals.

That's about what it comes down to. If you want the 5,000-7,000 mile changes over the 3,000-4,000 mile changes, then run a synthetic oil. In a engine like this, it's doesn't really matter what you pick. They weren't built around the idea of running a full synthetic oil like many newer vehicles are.
