BlueDriver vs OBDLink MX vs cheap stuff

I have an OBDLink LX which is giving me problems after trying to update the firmware, so I started reading about outher OBD2 adapters. Came across the MX version which apparently gives more info for GM cars. Then I saw BlueDriver which seemed cool. Anybody have experience with these 2? Would they give the same info as compared to say the BAFX one? Or do you have to have special software to be able to read the extra stuff as what I read for the MX in a review. I should I just stick to cheap stuff. Thx

Never used any of those things myself, always had actual gauges like an aeroforce scangauge or a scangauge2.

Most people like to use the Torque app on their phones with a obd dongle thingy, it reads many engine pids and does DTC codes too I believe. It's under $20-30 or something like that.

i use a elm 327 bluetooth in the obd port, and the torque app. t app is for droid devices. shows more live data then you'll know what to do with, will clear codes too and a host of other crap.

the elm seems to be a issue as of late for some. and they use the bafx one. costs a bit more but they have a better rate of working right over the last year or so.

do our cars use the GMLAN? apparently using an adapter that can read that gives us readings that u can't get with a normal OBD2 adapter. The MX can and apparently u can lock ur car doors and start the engine and what not using a special app with the MX. wondering if that would work with our cars

that i dont know much about. i always thought that was more for testing and programming.

the bcm controls all that stuff, most of the apps and such just scan engine parameters. not body controls.

GMLAN is a newer system.

Any 3800 does not use it, maybe 2008 does as that year is a one year computer with can-bus. Looks like 2007+ GXP's with the V8 computer use GMLAN. Those computer are far more advanced than a 3800 OS.

I've got the blue driver and it works flawlessly. The big selling feature for me was being able to read ABS codes. You can't find a handheld scanner under $100 that will do it. It does real time logging, saves reports, gives top reported fixes to stored codes, recalls and service bulletins, etc....

I also have the BlueDriver, but it doesn't support a whole lot of params for the live data. I emailed the BlueDriver support team the day after I got my delivered from Amazon to ask about it, and they SAY they're going to add support for GM Enhanced parameters, but who knows if they really will. Other than that, it's a pretty neat tool, and like smg267 said, it'll do all B-class, C-class and P-class codes, which is hard to find for any scan tool under a few hundred bucks.
