So here's the gist of it so far. I bought the car last year, transferred my sub setup and head unit into it and used a Rockford Fosgate wiring kit for the whole process. Last week I noticed that out of the blue (just the one time) I could hear the subs buzz with input when I did the lock/unlock on my keyless entry. Yesterday morning I went to take the care to work and it's dead, no juice whatsoever. It's a 2002 Grand Prix GTP, battery was just replaced about 5 months ago with a brand new one.
After work I went to jump it and the car initially got enough juice that I could open the doors using my keyless, and the subs did make that buzz again, but after picking up the sub power lead fuse block under the hood and moving it around to check it it's like it the car lost any power flowing from the jumping vehicle and was back to 100% dead. So then it acts like it's not getting anything power-wise from the jumping vehicle, it's like there's a short somewhere down the line that's just letting the juice flow through the power lead to the subs and grounding out.
I removed the power lead for the subs from battery and hooked the jumper cables back up and immediately it's got power flowing to the car again. So I jumped it, let it run, took it around everything is good. Shut it off, reconnected the sub power lead, no more buzzing through the subs at keyless use and the car fires up no problem again. I did note that the first time putting the power lead back on it sparked, I removed it to test and then put it back on, putting it back on a second and third time, no spark.
However this morning, 100% dead again. Ideas as to where my short could be? I checked the wiring on the back of the sub box and all the wiring is where it should be and connected properly. The ground for the amp is the same gauge as the power lead and it's connected from the amp to one of the bolts on the underside of the trunk deck as it's always been. I've also noticed my gas gauge recently has been hunting around instead of reading properly, possibly a symptom or just coincidence?
